Job Description

Space & Sensors team is building a cutting-edge satellite constellation to revolutionize global weather forecasting. This team is responsible for developing and operating the corresponding spacecraft and payload technology to produce global near-real-time weather data measurements. These measurements are integrated seamlessly into our existing forecasting and modeling systems revolutionizing global weather intelligence.

We are looking for a Mission Operations Systems Engineer to join a cutting edge multidisciplinary team focused on building and maintaining our next generation weather constellation. As a member of this team you will play a critical role in sustaining the success of our existing satellite programs as well as contributing to the design and implementation of next-generation capabilities. Our goal is to achieve high performance with a lightweight and software-centric team. Specific applications include but are not limited to: automated mission planning command and control situational awareness data visualization and data handling workflows.

You will get hands-on experience with both space and ground systems directly impacting weather monitoring software and modeling platforms. This is a unique opportunity to join a passionate and fast-growing organization.

Please note: This is a full-time position based in our Golden CO office. Candidates must be able to support a hybrid work plan with 2-3 days in the office per week.

What youll do:

  • Ensure the day-to-day performance of growing weather constellation
  • Use automated tools to build uplink and validate the execution of satellite mission plans
  • Ensure delivery of data downlink to data processing pipeline
  • Monitor constellation performance and adjust planning parameters to capture high-value collection opportunities like tropical cyclones
  • Respond to off-nominal alert conditions in both space and ground system and follow established recovery processes to restore mission services
  • Develop new operations software capabilities for next-generation satellites
  • Perform modeling and simulation using STK and Python to validate system performance

What you bring:

  • 3 years of relevant experience with on-orbit satellite operations and satellite ground systems including exposure to command and control (C2) and mission planning systems
  • Thorough understanding of common spacecraft subsystems and their components with specific mission experience in at least one area (power thermal RF/comms propulsion ADCS/GNC etc.)
  • Thorough understanding of the space environment and its effects on satellite operation (thermal radiation etc.)
  • Experience working within cloud-based software infrastructures
  • Experience with integrated systems testing with hardware and/or software testbeds
  • Experience with mission modeling and simulation in STK or equivalent
  • Strong proficiency with data analysis and visualization in Python
  • Strong proficiency in Linux/Unix environments and shell scripting
