General Job Description
Under the general supervision of the Superintendent the Math Coordinator focuses on student achievement in Math as indicated by Math Lab Pilot Grant. The Math Coordinator leads and assists in the development of best practices following the Effective Math Teaching Practices and by implementing math labs in schools around the District. The Math Coordinator works hand in hand with other educators to assist teachers in improving instruction by supporting instructional change to increase math achievement. Instructional change is made through the professional development process of training then assisting and supporting teachers with classroom instructional modifications and feedback.
Qualifications
- Hold an Instructional Level II or Level III teaching license.
- Bachelors degree in education or mathematics (required); Masters degree in mathematics education curriculum and instruction or math leadership (preferred or in progress).
- Three (3) to five (5) years of successful classroom teaching experience in mathematics.
- Demonstrated leadership working with students staff and families.
- Knowledge of research-based mathematics instructional strategies and familiarity with state standards.
- Ability to analyze student data and guide instructional decision-making.
- Strong communication collaboration and organizational skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Google Suite and instructional technology platforms.
- Ability to work independently manage multiple projects and maintain confidentiality
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Instructional Leadership
- Provide coaching mentoring and modeling to strengthen teacher practice in mathematics.
- Lead the planning implementation and monitoring of district math initiatives including math labs.
- Support curriculum development pacing guides and instructional resources aligned to state standards.
- Guide teachers in differentiating instruction and supporting diverse learners.
Professional Development
- Design and deliver professional development for teachers and staff.
- Facilitate Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and Math Study Cycles.
- Provide training in Number Talks Launch-Explore-Summarize lesson formats math games and assessment protocols.
- Cultivate teacher leadership through co-teaching peer observations and collaborative planning.
Data and Assessment
- Analyze student performance data to identify strengths and areas for growth.
- Support schools in using assessment results to inform instruction and interventions.
- Monitor effectiveness and fidelity of implementation of math labs and district math programs.
Collaboration and Communication
- Work with principals instructional coaches and district leadership to improve math instruction.
- Serve as liaison with state and regional mathematics education leaders.
- Communicate program goals progress and outcomes with staff families and stakeholders.
- Provide resources and strategies to help parents support math learning at home.
Program Support
- Assist in grant-supported initiatives and budget/resource planning for mathematics.
- Ensure compliance with the Math Lab Pilot Grant offered through the New Mexico Public Education Department.
- Participate in and provide support to principals coaches and teachers participating in the NUMeROS program.
- Maintain accurate records of professional development coaching and program implementation.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or Director of Curriculum and Instruction.
