POSITION SPECIFICS
The Department of Communication Arts and Sciences (CAS) at the Pennsylvania State University University Park Pennsylvania USA seeks to hire a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor whose scholarship addresses the intersection of interpersonal or relational communication and technology-mediated communication.
In this role the selected candidates research focus may include intrapersonal dyadic family group lifespan or community-level phenomena provided their scholarship centers processes of interpersonal relational communication or a closely related field. Examples of research programs that align with this position include how technology-mediated communication relates to identity and/or personal and relational well-being; how communication processes such as conflict management disclosure and social support unfold in and through modes that include technology; how technology-mediated communication is used within and/or influences families groups or communities. Scholarship focused on digital media mass communication or technology in society that does not also consider relational or interpersonal communication is outside the purview of this search.
The CAS department faculty consists of scholars working from a social science perspective and from a humanistic perspective. This full-time position will be filled by a scholar who contributes to the mission of the CAS department with regard to the social scientific study of communication. The successful candidate will complement the current CAS communication science facultys focus on interpersonal communication and relationships technology-mediated communication social influence and persuasion health communication and group dynamics. They will also demonstrate an interest in theoretically grounded scholarship and possess expertise in quantitative methods.
This position will include resident instruction and university service. The teaching load during the academic year involves four courses and on-site teaching is an essential function of the job.
Candidates for Assistant Professor of CAS must hold a Ph.D. in Communication or a related field by the time of the appointment. They also must possess demonstrated ability as a researcher scholar and teacher in a relevant field and evidence of growth in scholarly achievement. Duties include conducting research teaching undergraduate and graduate courses developing courses in the area of specialty supervising theses and dissertations and contributing through service to other departmental activities.
Candidates for Associate Professor of CAS must hold a Ph.D. in Communication or a related field. They must also have demonstrated excellence as a researcher scholar and teacher in a relevant field and have an established reputation of scholarly achievement. Responsibilities include conducting research teaching undergraduate and graduate courses developing courses in their area of specialty supervising theses and dissertations and contributing through service and leadership to other departmental activities as well as to the college university discipline and/or society.
