About the role

Communications within the Policy and Corporate Affairs Division is the custodian of AEMOs brand and reputation and has a critical role in positioning AEMO with internal and external stakeholders. This is achieved through effective branding and messaging internal and external communications media management leverage and own digital communication channels and energy education.

The Group Manager Strategic Communications is a senior leadership position in which youll be accountable for shaping developing and delivering the organisations overarching communications strategy and delivery of this. You will be responsible for ensuring that AEMOs vision operational priorities and transformation initiatives are effectively communicated to internal and external stakeholders building trust and understanding in a complex and rapidly evolving energy environment. Your focus will be to build and enhance AEMOs brand and reputation staff engagement and organisational capability by delivering high quality external and internal communications leadership. This is a critical position for AEMOs effectiveness requiring strong collaboration with AEMOs senior leadership team across all AEMO divisions and external stakeholders.

What you will be doing

  • Own AEMOs communication strategy and the delivery of this.
  • Lead and develop a team in line with AEMO values and ensuring it is positioned to deliver its role across external communications internal communications digital communication channels and energy education.
  • Own AEMO branding and organisational positioning.
  • Own and develop AEMOs corporate narrative brand style and voice ensuring that AEMO has the tools to speak with one consistent voice on key topics and that external publications have consistent look and messaging.
  • Develop an AEMO position and issues management plan including opportunities for advocacy and thought leadership to deliver on AEMOs strategic corporate plan.
  • Own and lead AEMOs strategy for external communications media management crisis and emergency response communications to ensure AEMOs external reputation and brand is protected and enhanced.
  • Own and lead AEMOs internal communications and change communications to ensure an engaged workforce.
  • Develop plans and strategies for the CEO and ELT to strengthen and protect AEMOs reputation and social licence through advocacy and thought leadership. Support executive leadership communications including through speeches presentations and articles.

What you will bring to the role

  • Bachelors degree or higher in journalism communications public relations or an associated field.
  • Substantial experience in senior communications management roles including demonstrated experience in issues and crisis communications and experience working with the media.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver strategic communications and channel management plans to meet organisational goals.
  • Exceptional writing skills and the ability to write for a range of purposes channels and audiences.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills and a collaborative mindset with sound professional judgement and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues executives and CEO level.
  • Energy sector experience highly regarded.
