Job Summary

Qualifications: Must be 18 years of age or older and possess a high school or equivalency diploma. College degree and/or related experience in the field preferred. Intermediate skills in Word and Excel. Good organizational communication and planning skills. Strong people skills including the ability to work with people of different backgrounds and levels of understanding. Availability to work days evenings and weekends. Must possess a valid New York State Drivers License and have the ability to obtain and maintain power equipment and food safety certifications. Prior experience operating power equipment in a warehouse setting preferred.


Physical Requirements: This position works in a typical warehouse setting and will be exposed to extreme temperatures and/or weather conditions. There will be extended periods of standing bending lifting balancing and handling materials. This position will normally have routine opportunities for the employee to alter their physical stance or change eye focus. This position will require the safe use of power equipment. Employee should have the ability to lift up to 50 pounds without assistance.


Position Summary: Responsible for recruiting coordinating scheduling and working with individual and group volunteers. Conducts community outreach and assists with recognition events.


This is a permanent full-time position consisting of 40 hours per week as follows:

Sunday 7:30am-4:00pm

Monday 7:30am-4:00pm

Tuesday 12:30pm-9:00pm

Wednesday 12:30pm-9:00pm

Thursday 12:30pm-9:00pm


Duties and Responsibilities:


1. Supervises schedules and works with volunteers to sort and re-pack food and non-food products in the warehouse.

2. Completes accurate paperwork for volunteer hours and products sorted.

3. Fields inquiries and maintains regular communication with volunteers via email and telephone in a timely manner.

4. Schedules volunteers using the CERVIS system.

5. Coordinates volunteers for off-site events and assists with other projects as needed.

6. Conducts outreach to community groups.

7. Assists with volunteer recognition events.

8. Contributes ideas and materials to the department and organizations newsletters as needed.

9. Works with volunteers and staff in other areas of the operation as needed.

10. Maintains a clean and safe workspace.

11. Inspects power equipment prior to use.

12. Follows all safety standards and procedures.

13. Works independently and collaboratively with other departments and employees in support of the mission of the Food Bank.

14. Adheres to the Food Banks Employee Code of Conduct.

15. Performs other duties as assigned.


The full-time Volunteer Engagement Specialist works alongside individual and group volunteers and other Volunteer Department staff at the Regional Food Bank where each year more than 20000 people donate their time.


This is a hands-on position that involves working with volunteers to sort and repack food and non-food products in the warehouse. Warehouse experience is helpful but not required.


The successful candidate is someone who is:


Dependable and has a strong work ethic

Energetic good with people and a team player

Able to communicate various instructions coherently and provide an educational component to volunteers (training on topic provided)

Become savvy in the use of CERVIS a volunteer scheduling software program (training provided)

Able to correspond with and schedule high volumes of volunteers on a daily basis

Able to work in a physically active fast-paced environment

Able to stand walk and lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis

Able to work in a warehouse where temperatures fluctuate

Responsible for opening and closing the building

Available weekdays weeknights and one weekend day on a prearranged schedule

Able to receive a forklift operators license with training provided by the Food Bank

Able to provide own steel-toe shoes (annual compensation is provided)

Committed to the cause of hunger relief and serious about working hard for a good cause
