Job Summary:

The Transportation Supervisor oversees and manages the daily operations of the Districts student transportation services ensuring the safe and efficient transport of students to and from school and related activities. The Supervisor provides leadership training and direction to transportation staff maintains compliance with state and federal laws and ensures reliable service to students parents and the community. The work is guided by state and federal transportation regulations district policy and operational direction from the Superintendent and School Board.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree preferred; or equivalent combination of education and related supervisory experience in transportation management.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in pupil transportation or related field including at least two (2) years in a supervisory role.

  • Knowledge of school bus operations scheduling safety and fleet maintenance.

  • Valid Idaho Commercial Drivers License (CDL) with required endorsements (or ability to obtain within a set timeframe).

  • Thorough understanding of federal and state laws regulations and safety standards governing pupil transportation.

  • Experience working with Collective Bargaining Agreements preferred.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Directs and supervises all operations of the Districts Transportation Department including bus routes scheduling driver assignments and compliance with safety regulations.

  • Ensures the safe and efficient daily transportation of students including special education transportation needs.

  • Develops and monitors bus routes and schedules to maximize efficiency safety and cost-effectiveness.

  • Oversees recruitment training evaluation and professional development of transportation staff including drivers mechanics and dispatchers.

  • Maintains compliance with all state and federal transportation laws regulations and safety standards.

  • Implements and enforces district policies procedures and protocols related to student transportation.

  • Coordinates with principals parents and district staff regarding transportation concerns discipline and service delivery.

  • Prepares monitors and manages the Transportation Department budget; reviews expenditures and recommends cost-saving measures.

  • Oversees fleet maintenance schedules to ensure safe reliable and efficient operation of district buses and vehicles.

  • Ensures compliance with drug/alcohol testing programs driver certification and licensing requirements.

  • Prepares reports and documentation for the Superintendent School Board and state agencies as required.

  • Investigates and responds to accidents complaints and incidents in accordance with district policy and state law.

  • Maintains positive working relationships with staff parents students community and partner agencies.

  • Encourages innovation problem-solving and continuous improvement within the Transportation Department.

  • Serves as a member of the districts leadership team and participates in emergency response planning.

Competency Requirements:

Knowledge of:

  • Federal and State of Idaho transportation laws regulations and reporting requirements.

  • School bus safety scheduling routing software and fleet management.

  • Personnel management labor relations and training best practices.

  • Budget development and financial oversight.

Ability to:

  • Lead and motivate staff to provide safe efficient and professional transportation services.

  • Organize work set priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Effectively communicate with a diverse community including staff students and parents.

  • Exercise sound judgment and resolve conflicts effectively.

  • Maintain confidentiality ethical standards and professionalism in all situations.

  • Demonstrate commitment to student safety and district values.



Other Duties:

  • Respond to emergencies weather events and unforeseen transportation issues.

  • Work with students staff and parents in a positive problem-solving manner.

  • Follow district policy and chain of command.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.

Essential Physical Abilities:

  • Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing to communicate effectively with staff students and the community.

  • Sufficient visual acuity to review schedules maps reports and vehicle inspections.

  • Sufficient mobility to oversee operations inspect buses/facilities and respond to incidents.

  • Ability to occasionally lift or move objects weighing up to 30 lbs.

  • Ability to work in office and field environments sometimes in inclement weather.
