Director of Product Management (Interim)

Location:Cambridge UK or Remote UK with regular travel to Cambridge
Salary: 90000 - 97000 p.a. Full-time equivalent dependent on experience
Basis: Fixed-term contract (12 months) Full-time part-time or flexible
Eligibility: You must be eligible to work in the UK

We are looking for a Director of Product Management (Interim) to join us for a 12-month fixed-term period. This role has become available as the current postholder is stepping up into the Chief Technology and Product Officer (CTPO) position on an interim basis.

Reporting to the CTPO you will lead our approach to product management ensuring stability while helping us to continue improving our practices. Youll manage our high performing team of six product managers support colleagues across the Foundation and work closely with business owners to keep our product strategies and roadmaps aligned with our mission and priorities.

The Foundations global product portfolio includes Experience CS Experience AI Code Club and our Code Editor. These products reach millions of learners and educators around the world and we work with leading partners including Google DeepMind Broadcom and the Cisco Foundation. As Interim Director of Product Management you will play a central role in shaping how we serve a global community and in supporting our mission to put the power of computing and digital technologies into the hands of all young people.

Our collaborative cross-functional product teams use a mix of agile approaches and project delivery methods depending on the needs of the product and context. We are looking for someone pragmatic who understands that product management looks different in different settings and can guide us to create digital learning products that deliver impact in ways that reflect our mission and values.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Foundations approach to product management during a 12-month interim period maintaining stability while continuing to improve practices.
  • Line manage product managers and mentor others across the Foundation to help build capability and embed effective but pragmatic approaches.
  • Work with product managers and business owners to ensure product strategies and roadmaps are in place for all core products aligned with the Foundations strategy and priorities.
  • Support the definition of clear objectives key results and product metrics ensuring they are meaningful ambitious and aligned with organisational priorities.
  • Apply agile practices in a way that works within the Foundations planning cycles and funding commitments ensuring teams can deliver impact effectively.
  • Champion the user making sure our products reflect the needs of diverse learners educators and partners worldwide.
  • Ensure products reflect our commitments to accessibility inclusion safeguarding and impact for underserved communities.
  • Ensure product strategies keep pace with developments in computer science and AI education supporting teachers and learners to build relevant skills.
  • Collaborate with engineering design learning and marketing colleagues to enable teams to deliver high-quality learning outcomes.
  • Manage budgets and approvals effectively within delegated authority.
  • Contribute to the Digital Products Leadership Team and the wider Leadership Team supporting strategy culture and values.

Experience and personal attributes

  • Prior experience as a Head or Director of Product Management leading user-facing digital products and experiences in education non-profits or other mission-driven organisations.

  • A pragmatic flexible leadership style able to meet the organisation where it is and guide it forward with a focus on what works not rigid process.
  • Strong communication and influencing skills able to get buy-in from a wide range of colleagues and partners.
  • Empathy curiosity and the ability to see the bigger picture while balancing multiple priorities.
  • Experience working across a global product portfolio serving diverse audiences at scale.
  • Awareness of current trends in AI and computer science education and the ability to shape products that respond to them.
