Job Description
As part of Thermo Fisher Scientific youll contribute to meaningful work that improves global health safety and environmental standards.
The EHS Specialist role centers on maintaining workplace safety overseeing safety systems and pinpointing workplace risks through analyses of processes and behaviors. Youll assess solutions tackle compliance issues and prioritize EHS actions. This role also involves crafting and improving health and safety programs in alignment with OSHA and EPA regulations as well as Thermo Fisher standards.
Responsibilities:
- Advocate for safety by identifying and implementing improvements to safety programs while educating employees.
- Provide technical expertise in EHS compliance risk management hazardous materials industrial hygiene and safety.
- Participate in incident investigations to determine root causes and identify trends in accident data for preventative measures.
- Collaborate with HR and healthcare professionals on return to work programs and workers compensation claims.
- Expand the observation-based safety program and conduct job safety and ergonomic analyses.
- Spearhead the assessment of process hazards and improve environmental and safety protocols.
- Maintain safety and environmental reports managing air and wastewater permits stormwater and hazardous waste programs.
- Conduct EHS reviews for new products and equipment and deliver EHS training programs.
- Engage in emergency response planning and perform all duties in compliance with safety standards and regulations.
- Complete additional duties and cross-training as assigned.
Qualifications:
- 2 years of experience in safety or environmental fields in a manufacturing setting preferred.
- Solve problems through independent analysis.
- Experience in guaranteeing adherence to environmental health and safety rules at the local state and federal levels.
- Strong technical and project management skills with the ability to successfully manage multiple projects and daily tasks.
- Capable of making decisions independently and working effectively as a team.
- Good verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Self-motivated experienced in developing and promoting creative and innovative solutions.
- Able to interact effectively with all levels of employees.
- Skilled at recognizing and appropriately addressing sensitive issues.
- Usually works independently on routine tasks and follows general instructions on new assignments.
- A bachelors degree or equivalent experience in a technical field (like chemistry biology environmental science or safety) with core training in environmental health and safety fields is preferred.
- OSHA 30-hour course or equivalent.
- Experience working at an ISO 9001 facility.
- Experience with Process Safety Management.
- Experience with OSHA Voluntary Protection Program (VPP).
- CSP (Certified Safety Professional) is a plus.
- Physical capable of lifting up to 30 to 50 pounds.
