About the Office of Commissioner Rodney Ellis
There are four precincts in Harris County. The four elected commissioners along with an elected county judge serve as members of Harris County Commissioners Court the administrative head of the countys government. Commissioner Rodney Ellis represents the constituents of Precinct One.

With approximately 1.17 million residents Harris County Precinct One is a diverse urban precinct that covers 363 square miles. Precinct Ones multi-racial multi-ethnic population is roughly 33 percent African American 38 percent Latino 21 percent Anglo 6 percent Asian and 2 percent other or multiple One stretches south to Brazoria County and reaches into eastern and northern sections of Harris County. The Precincts territory includes a large section of Downtown Houston including the Downtown Harris County Courthouse Complex Toyota Center Minute Maid Park and the BBVA Compass Stadium. Other notable landmarks include the 263-acre NRG Park Complex and the renowned Texas Medical Center. The Precinct is also the higher educational home to Houston Community College Rice University Texas Southern University the University of Houston and the University of St. Thomas. Precinct One manages more than 21 parks 10 community centers numerous hike-and-bike trails three maintenance service centers and several area offices all of which provide an array of services to Precinct One residents.

What you will do at Precinct One

The Project Technician will coordinate prepare and implement specifications of various Road & Bridge equipment special projects reports and offer support for road and bridge maintenance operations and on-call contracts. The successful candidate will evaluate and identify on-call projects ensuring that the contractor is in compliance prepare cost estimates and repair reports track road and bridge project progress and report discrepancies to Superintendents and Project Managers.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • You will inspect construction and roadways to ensure adherence to Precinct One specifications and safety standards.

  • Effectively communicate with Superintendents contractors or any other stakeholders and participate in group meetings.

  • You will act as a Customer Service Representative and handle 311 inquiries from the public and staff personnel.

  • Closing out 311 requests for maintenance and repair work on roads and bridges including patching potholes mowing sweeping and repairing damaged structures.

  • Monitor drainage culvert cleaning bridge maintenance and inspections culvert cleaning and ensure overall safety for road and bridge infrastructure.

Requirements

What you will bring to Precinct One

Education and Experience:

  • Associates degree in Engineering or the construction field or closely related.

OR

  • High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from an accredited educational institution
  • Four (4) years or more experience as a project technician or similar field
  • Proficiency in Microsoft software applications such as Outlook Word Excel and PowerPoint
License:
  • Must possess a Texas drivers license

Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
  • Strong computer and software skills to provide spreadsheets etc.
  • Ability to work in adaptable environments
  • Strong communication critical thinking and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Strong technical writing skills and verbal communication

  • This is a full-time position. Days and hours may vary depending on the assigned shift.
  • Required to be available to respond to emergencies.
Work Environment and Physical Demands:
  • This job operates both indoors and outdoors and may periodically require driving to other Precinct locations. Exposure to various and extreme weather conditions temperature variations and loud noises may be encountered.
