Job Title: SSI Advocate
Pay Rate:$16.28 per hour
Location: Wisconsin (WI BEAS Program)
Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated SSI Advocate to support our Wisconsin BEAS program. The SSI Advocate will work closely with ongoing case managers to identify children in the foster care system who may qualify for Social Security benefits. This role is essential in helping children access critical resources by preparing and submitting SSI applications and maintaining compliance with Social Security Administration (SSA) guidelines.
Essential Job Functions
  • Investigate potential cases and determine disabling conditions based on SSA criteria.
  • Prepare and file initial Supplemental Security Income (SSI) applications online with the SSA.
  • Compile and submit all supporting documentation for SSI applications.
  • Complete and submit Continuing Disability Reviews (CDRs) in a timely manner.
  • Submit first-level appeals for denied applications to the supervisor for review.
  • Maintain organized files for each referred child approved for SSI benefits.
  • Establish and maintain professional relationships with federal state and county agencies via phone and email.
  • Complete and submit weekly and monthly reports accurately and on schedule.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelors degree from an accredited college preferred; High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Strong analytical writing and reading comprehension skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail organizational skills and efficiency.
  • Ability to adapt to changing policies and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills when working with co-workers vendors and clients.
Performance Expectations (Goals)
SSI Initial Applications/CDRs:
  • First 3 months: Submit 15 initial SSI/CDR applications (average of 5 per month).
  • Second 3 months: Submit 21 initial SSI/CDR applications (average of 7 per month) with an approval rating of at least 50% of decisions made by the Disability Determination Bureau (DDB).
  • Ongoing: Submit a minimum of 10 applications per month (or 30 per quarter) with an approval rating of 50% of DDB decisions.
Appeals:
  • Complete and submit all appeals to the SSA by the required due date.
