Pima Animal Care Center (PACC) is seeking a compassionate organized and motivated Pet Resource Supervisor to lead a team dedicated to keeping pets with the families who love this key leadership role youll oversee two vital teams: the Call Center (our phone and dispatch specialists) and the Pet Support Team (our case managers working directly with the public). The Pet Support program includes several essential services such as licensing lost and found safety net resources the Keeping Families Together Fund and case management all designed to prevent unnecessary shelter intake and keep pets in loving homes. PACC is open seven days a week; this position requires the ability to work evenings weekends overnights and rotating shifts.

Essential Functions:


As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act this classification may include any of the following tasks knowledge skills and other characteristics. This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by incumbents of this class. Work assignments may vary depending on the departments need and will be communicated to the applicant or incumbent by the supervisor.

  • Supervises coordinates and monitors all animal shelter operations including intake pet resource center care treatment adoption quarantine fostering redemption and euthanasia to ensure humane and safe handling;

  • Ensures the humane treatment health and welfare of all animals in shelter care including performing health checks administering medications and vaccines monitoring behavior and consulting with veterinarians;

  • Plans organizes and implements staff scheduling training and work assignments and ensures compliance with humane care and safety procedures;

  • Evaluates employee performance provides training and guidance and makes recommendations on hiring discipline and personnel actions;

  • Establishes revises and implements unit standard operating procedures maintains records and databases compiles reports and develops policy recommendations;

  • Provides direct animal care as needed which may include handling feeding husbandry behavior assessment bandaging splinting administering medications performing euthanasia and documenting cases;

  • Supervises shelter teams including pet resources intake clinic or other unit supporting the overall goal of keeping families together keeping pets with their families and reducing shelter overcrowding;

  • Assists in determining adoptability ensures proper transfer or disposition of animals and maintains accurate documentation;

  • Assists the public with intake redemption adoptions inquiries and complaints while promoting adoptions and providing information on animal control policies and laws;

  • Oversees licensing owner redemption and other fees associated with shelter operations including balancing cash and credit;

  • Builds and maintains effective relationships with volunteers rescue/welfare groups other departments and the community to support animal care and animal outcome and/or intake diversion programs;

  • Ensures workplace safety investigates and documents accidents and incidents and complies with local state and federal regulations.

Minimum Qualifications:

Four (4) years of experience working with and treating animals or enforcing animal control laws regulations and ordinances or providing administrative support in an animal care setting INCLUDING one (1) year of lead or supervisory experience. (Lead/Supervisory experience may be concurrent with general experience.)

(Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)

OR:

Three (3) years of experience with Pima County as an Animal Care Technician Animal Care Field Officer Animal Care Assistant or closely related position as determined by the department head at the time of recruitment.

Preferred Qualifications: (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):

  • Minimum six (6) months of experience working in a call center or dispatch environment.

  • Minimum one (1) year of supervisory experience.

  • Minimum one (1) year experience in accounting and/or bookkeeping.

  • Bachelors degree or higher.

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Selection Procedure:

Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidates from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.

Supplemental Information:

License and Certifications:Valid driver license is required at time of application. Valid AZ driver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicants suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services review and approval of the candidates driving record.

Special Notice Items: Completion of a rabies vaccination cycle is required within two (2) months of hire.Medical inability to be immunized or previous immunization must be verified by the County Physician prior to employment. Recommended boosters are required for the duration of employment unless medically excused or physiologically unable to develop immunity. The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history education and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County. Some positions may require fluency in English and a second language as determined by the Department. This position will require apost-job offer physical and drug screen.

Physical/Sensory Work Requirements: This position requires the ability to lift push and pull up to 100lbs. Additional physical and sensory abilities will be determined by position.
