Job Summary
Position Summary:
The Access Control and Surveillance Technician (Temporary) is part of the Office of Housing and Residential Education in the Student Affairs division at Vanderbilt University and is a key individual contributor responsible for the residential security system. The qualified candidate will be dependable and detail-oriented to support the installation maintenance and troubleshooting of our access control and surveillance systems. Working alongside our Security Systems Specialists youll help keep our security infrastructure running smoothly.
This is a temporary position.
Key Functions and Expected Performance:
Assist with installing testing and maintaining security hardware.
Run terminate and organize wiring for system components.
Troubleshoot and repair card readers cameras and control panels.
Perform routine system checks and diagnostics.
Support system programming and configuration.
Conduct preventive maintenance and inspections.
Keep accurate records of work and configurations.
Help manage tools parts and equipment inventory.
Follow all safety and handling procedures.
Provide general technical support as needed.
Supervisory Relationships:
This position has no supervisory responsibility. This position reports administratively and functionally to the Assistant Director of Security Systems.
Education and Certifications
High School Diploma is required.
Associates degree in electronic Information Systems or a related field preferred.
Experience and Skills:
Basic knowledge of security systems wiring or IT hardware is preferred.
Experience with access control surveillance or low-voltage wiring is preferred.
Comfortable using hand tools and diagnostic equipment.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
Able to work independently and as part of a team.
Effective communication and documentation skills.
Strong attention to detail.
Ability to lift 40 pounds above head is necessary
Ability to climb ladders and stairs is necessary
Ability to work in confined spaces is necessary
Ability to move about campus on foot
