The Alaska Department of Fish and Game Division of Commercial Fisheries is recruiting for an Information Officer 2 located in Anchorage!


What you will be doing:

The Information Officer has the primary responsibility to coordinate the commercial fisheries public information and education programs disseminate commercial fisheries management and research program information to the public and oversee the Central/AYK Regions publications program. Provide specific detailed information on complex federal state area and department commercial fishing regulations management plans statistical data policies and procedures and technical information on emergency order openings and closures of the Regions commercial fisheries to the public in person over the phone or email. Assist in the preparation of Alaska Board of Fisheries (BOF) meetings including formatting and assembling scientific technical reports and annual management reports in support of the Regions publications program.

The working conditions you can expect:

This position is based at the front desk of the Alaska Department of Fish and Game office in Anchorage where you will be the primary point of contact for commercial fisheries at the Information Center.

  • This position requires the incumbent to obtain/maintain a valid drivers license.
  • Duties of this position may require the incumbent to work irregular hours and occasionally more than five days per week.


Who we are looking for:

We are looking for an individual with the following knowledge skills and abilities:

  1. Broad range of experience working with fishermen and the public in person over the phone and email to disseminate and explain complex fishing regulations.

  2. Strong organizational skills essential given the amount of forms required for fishermen.

  3. Strong editing and proofreading ability of news releases and other documents staff have completed and prepare those documents for printing emailing and/or posting.

  4. Working with other agencies/divisions to coordinate data/info dissemination.

  5. Demonstrated ability to communicate with various publics concerning fisheries related issues through written and oral means.

Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the applicant with competencies in

  • Communications and Media: Knowledge of the production communication and dissemination of information and ideas to inform and entertain via written oral visual media and social media.

  • Multimedia Technologies: Knowledge of the principles methods tools and techniques to develop or apply technology using text audio graphics or other media.

  • Oral and Written Communication: Expresses information (for example ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example technical sensitive controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others attends to nonverbal cues and responds appropriately.

  • Organizational Awareness: Knows the organizations mission and functions and how its social political and technological systems work and operates effectively within them; this includes the programs policies procedures rules and regulations of the organization.

Equivalent to those typically gained by:

Any combination of preparatory post-secondary education and/or progressively responsible experience in journalism communications media education English literature fine arts library science radio television photography advertising marketing sales public relations and/or promotional work freelance writing technical writing and/or research education library work or other information dissemination field.
