Job Description

The Sr. Process Engineer is the technical process expert for multiple mills and provides technical support for multiple process engineers quality operations and maintenance as appropriate. This includes multiple mills and operations through technical support advanced process optimization and Six Sigma project definition oversight and project management. This role is responsible for collaborating with senior operations quality engineering and maintenance in identifying and executing opportunities for process improvements. The Sr. Process Engineer assists with process control capital improvements and initial product performance evaluations. This position is responsible for ensuring process engineers and teams are using proper methods in the development of process control solutions and continuous process improvement.

Job Summary and Responsibilities
  • Focuses on process improvement (continuous approvement) efforts to improve product quality for multiple manufacturing lines and mills
  • Design and/or optimize and implement process control systems for multiple manufacturing linesand mills
  • Develops daily monthly and annual operational reports such as KPIs COPQs product/process capability assessments and requirements for manufacturing lines along with process improvements
  • Collaborates with quality assurance and operations teams to ensure that shop floor documents and training identify the necessary features of process control (targets tolerances frequency of measurement etc.) to maintain process control systems and strategies
  • Supports product development activities working with mill process engineers quality operations and R&D when required
  • Attends Six Sigma lean manufacturing and process control conferences to stay abreast of process control techniques advancements in the broader steel manufacturing industry
  • Recommends capital investments to improve processes capability and leverage new technologies and assist in implementation as applicable
  • Assists the manager of process technology to manage training programs for DOE and problem-solving methods along with Six Sigma training and implementation practices

Requirements

  • Masters degree in Engineering Metallurgical Engineering or Materials Science required PhD degree preferred
  • Minimum of 10 years experience working in data driven process improvement
  • Experience in steelmaking with melting and casting expertise
  • Experience in MS Excel Minitab or other statistical software packages to analyze numerical data and draw conclusions
  • Experience working with interdepartmental teams at all levels up to management to accomplishing tasks
  • Experience with programming including SQL visual basic and IBA analysis tools a plus
  • Demonstrated experience in advanced statistical analysis techniques (MSA ANOVA SPC Regression forecasting tools and designed experiments)
  • Demonstrated experience in applying root cause problem solving methods (Ford 8D Ishikawa diagrams Failure Mode Effects Analysis etc.) in manufacturing
