Senior Software Engineer

Location: Alameda CA

About the Company:
Newlight is accelerating the transition of the maritime industry to sustainable energy by making sustainable shipping affordable. We focus on upgrading the current fleet with hydrogen integration reducing fuel consumption and emissions through advanced dual-fuel engine technology.

Role Overview:
We are seeking a hands-on Senior Software Engineer to design implement and validate production-grade engine management systems for advanced hydrogen and dual-fuel applications. This role will focus on safety-critical embedded software ECU integration and cloud-connected functionality directly enabling the decarbonization of the maritime industry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop test and maintain production software in C Simulink and auto-generated code following SSQA and industry standards.

  • Design and optimize map-based fuel injection controllers with closed-loop algorithms.

  • Implement advanced diagnostics for sensor and actuator health including fault detection and reporting.

  • Collaborate with hardware and systems teams to integrate ECU hardware into new and existing applications.

  • Architect and maintain RTOS-based software including robust state machines and kernel-level integrations.

  • Conduct full-cycle testing: unit SIL HIL and in-vehicle validation.

  • Support development of HMI and data interfaces for monitoring and performance analysis.

Must-Have Skills:

  • Strong background in fuel injection or hybrid control software (map-based fueling closed-loop control).

  • Advanced programming in C/C for embedded systems (flexibility with Python Rust etc.).

  • Hands-on expertise with ECU hardware selection and integration.

  • Knowledge of automotive/industrial diagnostics (OBD-II J1939).

  • Familiarity with engine sensors actuators and combustion control systems.

Preferred Skills:

  • Deployment of consumer-grade or production-level engine control software.

  • Working knowledge of ISO 26262 or related functional safety standards.

  • Experience with model-based controller design simulation and HIL testing.

  • Background in hydrogen or dual-fuel combustion systems.
