The Opportunity

The Senior Desktop Support Engineer is a key member of the IT team responsible for delivering seamless technology experience to employees and serving as the primary liaison between IT and business units. This position manages workstation mobile device and Cloud environments ensures efficient troubleshooting and resolution of technical issues and leads efforts to improve IT service delivery. Beyond technical expertise the Desktop Support Engineer communicates effectively with non-technical stakeholders translates business needs into IT solutions and represents IT in cross-functional settings.

What You Will Do Essential Responsibilities

  • Manage and support workstations mobile devices along with their peripherals and foundational M365 Cloud ensuring their optimal setup deployment monitoring and troubleshooting.
  • Provide support with the IT team for all end-user technical issues excelling in troubleshooting and resolving issues across hardware operating systems and applications.
  • Translate complex technical concepts into clear business-friendly communication to support decision-making and enhance user understanding.
  • Oversee the IT Helpdesk prioritizing and addressing tickets promptly to adhere to or exceed company Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Manage the IT asset lifecycle for all endpoint devices including workstations printers scanners and copiers.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records for all endpoint assets remotely documenting common issues essential application functionalities and software licensing information.
  • Represent IT in department and project meetings ensuring user needs are considered in IT initiatives and company-wide changes.
  • Lead IT service improvement projects such as rollout of new tools process enhancements or employee training sessions.
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to junior IT staff contractors and consultants fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
  • Assist in managing corporate communication systems (e.g. Teams Exchange OneDrive SharePoint) ensuring reliability and user adoption.

Secondary Accountabilities

  • Maintain a positive attitude foster culture and a team approach.
  • Personal development through GafCollege attendance (virtual) professional organization memberships continuing education professional registration and certification achievement.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not currently include direct reports but the Desktop Support Engineer will act as a senior resource and mentor for other IT support staff.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • A minimum of 7 years in a desktop support role or similar with a demonstrated history of resolving complex technical issues.
  • Bachelors degree in computer system administration a related field or equivalent technical training. Current technical certifications are a plus.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven ability to serve as an IT liaison to business units gathering feedback identifying needs and aligning IT services with business goals.
  • Strong foundation in computer networking and cybersecurity principles with a focus on streamlining remote IT processes through automation of fixes/patches deployments installations and system upgrades.
  • Proficiency in navigating and managing the Microsoft 365 technology stack for remote settings including user management Teams Exchange mailbox management OneDrive and SharePoint.
  • Highly organized with meticulous attention to maintaining digital documentation (e.g. Standard Operating Procedures) and virtual IT inventory ensuring tools and resources are readily accessible.
  • Demonstrates a genuine enthusiasm for technology and staying ahead of industry trends with a willingness to learn and adapt to new software and hardware solutions to enhance remote support capabilities.
  • Knowledge of Server and Cloud technologies enhancing the ability to manage and troubleshoot remote infrastructures effectively.
  • While primarily a remote position the role may require occasional hands-on tasks thus flexibility and readiness to engage with physical equipment when necessary are important.
