NHW is the major regional health service and specialist referral facility for Northeast Victoria. It serves a population of approximately 102000

performs over 6500 procedures a year and has over 19000 inpatient episodes and 30000 Emergency Department attendances a year and approximately 700 births per year. We have onsite radiology pathology and blood bank service. NHW provides a wide range of acute specialist medical and surgical services an emergency department critical care unit (ICU HDU CCU) obstetrics and gynaecology paediatrics specialised aged care medical oncology services community rehabilitation inpatient community aged and psycho-geriatric mental health services.

NHW has recently completed a major redevelopment including the building of a new emergency department ICU and expansion of medical and paediatric units

Applications are invited from doctors who are wanting to undertake a PGY2 / 3 year at Northeast Health Wangaratta (NHW) including applying for a Rural Generalist (RG2) training post in 2026.

The HMO stream is designed to flexibly deliver career pathways for junior doctors.

HMOs may choose from any of the available hospital rotations to develop careers in medicine general practice or other specialties. Rotations essential to develop your HMO career are negotiated and guaranteed with the offer of contract.

Hospital Medical Officer (PGY2 / 3)

The HMO year consists of four terms of 13 weeks in duration.

The rotations on offer are as follows: Emergency Medicine Anaesthetics Obstetrics & Gynaecology Paediatrics Psychiatry Rehabilitation General Practice (Rural Generalist / John Flynn placement) Hospital in the home (HITH) and General Medicine.

Applicants will be required to discuss rotation preferences at Interview.

If you are an International Medical Graduate we would require you to have recency of practice (ideally within the last 2 years).

There is an option to undertake Basic Physician Training / BPT 1 at Northeast Health Wangaratta. If you are interested in this please do include it in your application.
