Job Description
Our client a well-regarded public agency located in the greater Sacramento area is seeking a qualified Paralegal to assist self-represented litigants in navigating family and civil law matters. The Paralegal is public facing assisting clients with a wide range of scheduling consultations and case filing tasks. The candidates will demonstrate expertise in family and civil legal research collaborating with court clerks/staff and a commitment to serving the public (70-100 Interactions per day) with professionalism and empathy.
This temporary assignment expected to last 56 months. Hourly pay range: $32-$39/hour. (DOE)
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists individuals from diverse backgrounds by identifying legal issues guiding them through procedural requirements and helping complete necessary court forms.
- Evaluates case files determines status and advises litigants on next steps across family law and civil matters.
- Provides in-person and remote support through face to facemeetings and educational workshops on court procedures and legal processes.
- Handles scheduling communications and administrative tasks to support program operations and client services.
- Stays current with legislative updates refines internal procedures and ensures compliance with legal standards.
- Works with attorneys and staff attends trainings and engages courteously with the public and court community across locations.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of an ABA-approved paralegal program a qualifying postsecondary law-related program a bachelors degree with supervised legal experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of family law paralegal or judicial support experience involving legal research document drafting and service delivery under attorney supervision.
- Experience working in a public agency or court-based self-help center is considered desirable.
- Familiarity with superior court operations California legal codes (civil and family) litigant assistance programs and legal terminology and procedures.
- Ability to conduct legal research interpret statutes and explain legal processes clearly to self-represented litigants through written and verbal communication.
- Skilled in modern office practices including use of legal software case management systems and statistical reporting tools.
- Demonstrates patience professionalism sound judgment and the ability to work independently or collaboratively under pressure while maintaining effective relationships.
