Assistant Controller
Reports To: Controller
Full-Time
Location: Northampton MA
Schedule: Monday - Friday 9a-5p
Salary: $95000 - 110000 (Based on experience)

Position Summary
The Assistant Controller plays a key leadership role within the Fiscal Department overseeing Accounts Payable Staff Accountants and Purchasing functions. This position ensures accuracy of financial reporting compliance with regulatory requirements and efficiency of day-to-day operations. The Assistant Controller serves as a leader and mentor advancing a culture of accountability teamwork and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities

Supervise Accounts Payable Purchasing and Staff Accountants.
Assist with monthly close process and preparation of financial statements.
Ensure compliance with GAAP nonprofit regulations and funding requirements.
Support annual audit tax filings and grant reporting.
Assist in budget development monitoring and variance analysis.
Maintain and strengthen internal controls.
Lead process improvements in accounting purchasing and financial systems.
Provide leadership training and development to accounting staff.
Other duties as assigned by the Controller or Chief Financial Officer.

Qualifications

Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or related field required; MBA/MSA preferred.
Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience including 2 years of supervisory experience.
Nonprofit or healthcare finance experience strongly preferred.
Strong knowledge of GAAP nonprofit accounting and compliance.
Demonstrated leadership and mentoring ability.
Proficiency in ERP/accounting systems and Excel.
Excellent analytical communication and problem-solving skills.
