Position Overview
The SUE Analyst is responsible for planning conducting and directing one or more projects within the Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) team. This role supports the Geomatics departments efforts to accurately locate identify and assess subsurface utilitiesreducing utility conflict risks and improving project safety. The ideal candidate is a self-starter with a positive attitude a willingness to learn and the ability to train and mentor others.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate company equipment to accurately locate and identify subsurface utilities
- Lead and manage SUE field teams providing guidance training and mentorship
- Oversee field operations including utility designation vacuum excavation mapping and data collection
- Collaborate with project managers to develop work plans schedules and budgets
- Use advanced geophysical equipment and technologies to locate and map underground utilities
- Utilize ground penetrating radar and other geophysical methods for utility detection
- Coordinate and communicate effectively with clients utility owners regulatory agencies and stakeholders
- Implement quality control procedures to ensure accuracy and completeness of SUE data
- Exercise extreme caution near utility facilities and follow all job site safety protocols
- Visit project sites to identify and verify project limits
- Organize field work and direct crew members
- Read and interpret utility records survey drawings and highway design plans
- Designate existing utilities using electromagnetic and geophysical technologies
- Collect field data accurately and efficiently and deliver to CAD
- Provide QA/QC on SUE projects
- Maintain updated knowledge of innovative SUE technologies and techniques
- Assist with operation and maintenance of vacuum excavation truck
- Train field staff and reinforce standards
- Enforce company safety policies and procedures
- Represent McAdams professionally in the field
- Follow Geomatics department guidelines and standards
- Maintain a safe and respectful work environment
Skills & Experience
- High School diploma or GED required
- 5 years of progressive experience in the SUE industry
- Minimum 2 years of survey experience
- Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team
- Strong analytical goal-driven and problem-solving skills
- Proficient with EM survey and GPR locating equipment
- Skilled in reading utility as-built/schematic records
- Working knowledge of conventional and GPS survey equipment
- Willingness to travel and work on vacuum excavation trucks
- Strong technical and behavioral traits: detail-oriented methodical honest adaptable and consistent
- Valid drivers license with acceptable motor vehicle record
- Must pass a drug test
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Outdoor work in varying environmental conditions
- Long-term standing and frequent walking required
- Frequent use of hands for typing grasping and repetitive motion
- Ability to lift/push/pull up to 50 lbs frequently and up to 100 lbs occasionally
- Must be able to stand or walk 812 hours per day
- Physical abilities required: seeing smelling hearing talking climbing balancing stooping kneeling twisting crouching crawling reaching grasping sitting standing walking
- Weekend overtime overnight work and travel may be required
- Additional physical duties may be necessary
