About National Trust Queensland & the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary

As one of Queenslands earliest nature-based tourist destinations the Sanctuary is a physical embodiment of everything the NTAQ represents:to conserve and advance our natural and cultural heritage for future generations.

As we continue to welcome visitors to the Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary we have an opportunity for a passionate and driven Casual Koala Habitat & Animal Encounters Keeper to support the delivery of our guests animal visitor interactions with a variety of animal species and provide daily keeper duties to the animals within the Koala Habitat area.

About the Role

As our confident Koala Habitat & Animal Encounters Keeper you will be part of our passionate Animal Encounters Team and work to deliver educational engaging and professional animal experiences to our visitors.

You will also carry out the daily feeding husbandry health and welfare keeper responsibilities of the koalas in our care at Koala Habitat.

About You

To be successful in this role it is highly desirable to have previous zoo keeping or animal husbandry experience and be confident working with animals and be comfortable with public speaking to perform presentations to visitors groups and media. Other required skills and qualifications we are looking for include:

  • Certificate 3 in Captive Animal Management (required as minimum)
  • Able to understand and identify animal behaviour the basic training and conditioning of wildlife and monitoring animal health
  • A fun energetic and highlight motivated attitude and have excellent communication skills
  • Highly adaptable can work independently and able to work well in a team
  • Be prepared to work in an outdoor environment in all weathers in a role that requires substantial walking in a workplace that has native wildlife such as birds and reptiles
  • Flexible and available to work across weekends school holidays and public holidays
