The Role
The Campaigns Manager plays an integral role in helping BirdLife Australia achieve its strategic goal of improving the conservation status of Australian birds and the habitats on which they depend. Reporting to the Senior Manager Advocacy and Policy the Campaigns Manager will lead the planning delivery and review of conservation campaigns. The Campaigns Manager within a small team and across the organisation to build power through conservation campaigns and advocacy to achieve effective protection of Australias native birds and their habitats.

Improve the conservation status of Australian birds by building power to prevent extinctions and supporting the implementation of BirdLife Australias Bird Conservation Strategy through effective conservation advocacy and campaigns.
Status
This is a full-time (1 FTE) position on a 12-month contract.
Staff reporting
None. This role plays a key role in influencing coaching and mentoring across various teams.
Remuneration / Job Level
Full-time salary at Level 4 $97824 $119563 (based on published Level / Grade Remuneration Scales)
Location
The position is based in Collingwood (hybrid work from home arrangement). Alternative locations will be considered based on strategic merit.
Reporting
This position reports to the Senior Manager Advocacy and Policy.
Key relationships
Internal: Conservation and Science teams all departments particularly Communications Media Fundraising and Marketing teams and BirdLife Australias branches groups and observatories.
External: Environmental non-government organisations lobby groups First Nations Peoples (including Traditional Owners and representative groups) Business and Industry Experts (including academics and management professionals).
Travel requirements
Some travel within Australia may be required.
Duties Campaign management
Work with the Senior Manager Advocacy Senior Advisor Government Liaison and Senior Manager Participation in the development of conservation campaign strategies that will deliver the Bird Conservation Strategy.
Lead the coordination and delivery of conservation campaign strategies.
Liaise with relevant staff to identify cross-organisational opportunities and collaborate to design and implement campaign tactics.
Manage campaign budgets.
Monitor and evaluate campaign performance against objectives including objectives of the Bird Conservation Strategy and adapt campaign strategies where needed.
Policy and advocacy
Work collaboratively with the Conservation and Science team in the development of policy and scientific analysis and research to support campaign strategy development and implementation.
Liaise with Senior Advisor Government Liaison to build constructive relationships with political offices and government departments.
Identifying local and federal funding opportunities relevant to BirdLifes science and conservation objectives and assisting with funding application processes. Organising and representing BirdLife Australia in meetings workshops and other policy development and advocacy opportunities.
Engage with advocacy and consultation processes relating to priority campaign objectives including producing high quality submissions briefs and reports.
Public engagement and communication
Act as a media spokesperson and generate opportunities for expanding BirdLife Australias profile across media platforms on topics relevant to priority campaign objectives.
Develop and implement public facing and digitial campaigns that activate BirdLife Australia supporters and the public to achieve priority campaign objectives.
Liaise with campaigns team and communications team to develop and implement public communications activities and tactics.
Managing alliances and people
Support a high-performance campaigns team.
Work within the broader campaigns and participation team to engage and train conservation advocates and develop tools for their use to deliver effective conservation outcomes relevant to priority campaigns and/or local conservation issues.
Build and foster effective collaborations relationships and alliances with external stakeholders to deliver priority campaign objectives.
Selection Criteria
Essential
Demonstrated experience developing and delivering campaign policy or public affairs strategies with clear goals and indicators of success; High level strategic planning and management including experience measuring progress against objectives managing issues and overcoming obstacles to ensure objectives are met
Demonstrated systems thinking skills coupled with well-developed understanding of power analysis influencing and political strategy
Demonstrated ability to develop policy briefs including in response to unexpected external events
Excellent advocacy skills a good sense of politics and experience identifying and removing barriers
Ability to initiate and maintain effective relationships with external stakeholders and decision makers from a wide range of political and ideological perspectives
Excellent interpersonal negotiation conflict resolution issues management media and communication skills.
Open to innovative ideas and practices and a desire to strive for continuous improvement in the performance of the organisation
Highly accountable
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple project budgets and to ensure project delivery is on time and budget
