Job Description

Who We Are:CAMBA is a community of staff volunteers clients donors neighbors and partners who work together to build an inclusive New York City where all children and adults have access to the resources and supports they need to thrive. We take a comprehensive approach by offering more than 180 integrated programs in: Education & Youth Development Family Support Job Training & Employment Support Services Health Housing and Legal Services. We reach almost 80000 individuals and families including almost 13000 serves a diverse cross section of New Yorkers from new mothers in Brownsville to job seekers in the Rockaways. More than half of our clients are immigrants and refugees from around the globe. Over 85% of our families are living in poverty reflecting the challenges faced by nearly 1.7 million New Yorkers today.

Education & Youth Development Programs: CAMBA operates more than 20 after school and summer camp programs in New York City serving over 10000 elementary and middle school children. This programming includes supper and socialization; homework help; science technology engineering and math (STEM); literacy enrichment; recreation activities; conflict resolution; clubs; and community circle. Programs operate during the school year in the summer and on most school holidays.

Position: Assistant Youth Facilitator (Group Worker)

Reports To: Assistant Program Director

Location(s): Brooklyn NY

What The Assistant Youth Facilitator (Group Worker) Does:

  • Ensure the safety and security of each program participant by following CAMBA Beacons summer camp protocols and procedures including but not limited to procedures and protocols regarding safety supervision accident and incident reporting.
  • Participate in 5 minute meeting (FMM) before the start of program each day as led by assigned Program Leader in order to share information about the plan for the day and the Assistants role.
  • Actively support students in following program guidelines on a daily basis.
  • Actively support program leader/program specialist in the implementation and documentation of program wide incentive programs with students on a daily basis and provide follow up on a weekly basis.
  • Actively supervise students in the hallways bathrooms and classrooms to ensure a safe environment.
  • Assist in taking daily student attendance.
  • Assist in classroom setup before and after program activity.
    • Distribute collect store instructional materials and/or sports equipment/games.
  • Assist clients individually or in groups with summer camp activities to present or to reinforce learning concepts.
  • Adhere to program polices regarding student arrival and dismissal snack procedures transition procedures and trip guidelines.
  • May assist in the facilitation of a club activity.
  • May operate learning aids such as film and slide projectors VCRs tape recorders etc.
  • May prepare requisitions for instructional materials and supplies.
  • May type and copy instructional materials for distribution.
  • May confer with family members on progress of clients.
  • May co-facilitate a club activity.
  • Tasks may be modified expanded and/or assigned over a period of time.

Minimum Education/Experience Required:

  • Current high school student.

Other Requirements:

  • Must obtain Dept. of Health Dept. of Education fingerprint clearance; doctors note certifying good health; proof of negative results from TB test; and State Central Registry (SCR) clearance.
  • Ability to maintain State Central Registry (SCR) clearance and fingerprint clearance throughout the duration of employment.
  • Ability to adapt to the culture and environment of a public school
  • Ability and willingness to participate in field trips requiring dealing with outdoor weather conditions during working hours.

Compensation: $17.00hourly
Status: Part-time/ Seasonal
