Position Description
Position Overview:
This position is responsible for fabricating assembling and repairing metal structures and equipment using a variety of tools and welding techniques in designated County buildings. This position requires a strong understanding of welding processes blueprint reading and metal fabrication methods.
Job Duties:- Pre-heats and cleans metals.
- Lays out cuts and fits materials for welding.
- Cut bend and weld metal components using manual or semi-automatic welding equipment.
- Fabricate metal structures and components according to design specifications.
- Perform MIG TIG Stick (SMAW) and/or Flux-Core welding depending on project requirements.
- Performs cutting and welding operations on structural steel pipe and fittings crankcases radiators tanks brackets etc. which may require frequent lifting/carrying up to 50 pounds.
- Interpret and follow technical drawings blueprints and specifications.
- Inspects brushes and grinds welds.
- Lays out welding work and makes simple estimates of time and material requirements.
- Operate various hand and power tools (e.g. grinders shears saws).
- Measure and inspect finished workpieces to ensure conformance to specifications.
- Maintain equipment and tools in safe clean working condition.
- Follow all safety procedures and maintain a clean work environment.
- Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.

Education:
High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
Experience:Three (3) years of welding experience.Valid Texas Drivers License.Proficiency in MIG TIG and/or Stick welding techniques.
Knowledge Skill & Abilities (KSAs):Knowledge of all tools equipment techniques terminology and materials of the welding trade to include the cost of materials.Knowledge of hazards safety procedures and equipment as they apply to the welding trade.Knowledge of metallurgy.Knowledge of basic design practices.Skill in operating tools used in the welding trade including chop saws band saws drill press bench and angle grinder welding machines cutting torches acetylene welding equipment electric hand tools standard hand tools rotary hammers and jack hammers.Skill in operating equipment used in the welding trade to include tractors forklifts versa-lifts and high-rangers.Ability to work under minimal supervision.Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers supervisors and the general public.Ability to make decisions and prioritize assignments.Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.Ability to read plans and blueprints.Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the position with or without accommodations.Working conditions are primarily in a shop or construction site environment with frequent exposure to high voltage dust noise and dangerous equipment and materials.NOTE:Qualifying education experienceknowledgeand skills must be documentedonyour job application. Preferences
Education: AWS (American Welding Society) certification. Experience: Ability to construct items using blueprints or drawings.
Experience with CNC machinery or plasma cutting systems.
Forklift or overhead crane operation certification.General Information
Position Type and Typical Hours of Work:
Full-Time Regular 40 hours per week.
Subject to early mornings late evenings weekends and holidays at times depending upon the project or workload.
Salary: Commensurate with experience based on 26 pay periods.- Physical ability to perform job duties including working on ladders and scaffolding; regularly standing sitting stretching bending stooping and climbing.
- Ability to frequently lift and/or move a minimum of fifty (50) pounds of equipment supplies and tools.
- Ability to safely install rigging/lifting devices for heavier items.
- Works outside in all kinds of weather; may work with no air conditioning or heating.
- Will work in cramped and awkward positions with all types of mechanical tools electric and other equipment and may be exposed to dust dirt paint fumes etc.
