Were looking for a dynamic solutions-focused Compliance Officer to join our Regulatory Services team in beautiful Buller. Youll play a key role in monitoring enforcing and educating around compliance with relevant laws regulations and bylaws to help make Buller a safe and thriving district.
In this varied and meaningful role youll lead investigations engage with the public and help maintain a high standard of regulatory integrity across environmental building animal control and bylaw compliance areas.

What Will You Do Ka aha koe
Key responsibilities will include:
- Compliance Monitoring & Enforcement: Investigate complaints determine non-compliance recommend enforcement action and assist in the preparation legal documents when needed.
- Building Compliance Support: Assist in auditing BWOFs manage notices update building compliance registers and advise on regulations.
- Field Operations Support: On occasion assist enforcing bylaws related to freedom camping noise control and more including issuing infringements.
- Animal & Dog Control Support: On occasion support enforcement of the Dog Control Act and Council bylaws including field investigations and public education.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Deliver exceptional customer service provide professional advice and build strong relationships with the community and external agencies.
- Compliance Program Development: Contribute to the creation and implementation of procedures and performance reporting tools.
Who Are You Ko wai koe
We are looking for someone with:
Essential:
- Minimum 3 years experience in regulatory compliance.
- Strong investigative and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of relevant NZ regulations and codes.
- Full NZ drivers licence.
Desirable:
- NZ Certificate in Regulatory Compliance (or studying towards).
- Experience in local government and/or dog handling.
- Ability to work flexibly and handle competing demands.
- High standard of personal integrity and confidentiality.
