PURPOSE STATEMENT
This position is available to high school Whitman College Walla Walla Community College & Walla Walla University students (including State Work Study eligible students) and/or community members interested inworking with youth in an afterschool educational setting. Staff will perform instructional support tasks be a positive role model for students and foster a safe and supportive community learning environment. This position will be 16 hours a week (2:30-5:30 MTTHF; 1:30-5:30 W).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Actively mentor and engage students building strong success-oriented relationships.
- Facilitate afterschool mentoring programs clubs and enrichment activities in collaboration with the Afterschool Program Director and building staff.
- Reinforce rigor in learning & individual responsibility and improving writing reading math and support social-emotional and executive functioning skills.
- Evaluate student performance both qualitatively and quantitatively.
- Develop SEL-based mentoring and tutoring skills in accordance with afterschool best practices.
- Become skilled in asking open-ended leveled questions.
- Develop collaboration and inquiry skills in students.
- Model academic excellence and encourage academic successes during the school day.
- Communicate regularly with teaching staff to promote student growth and class effectiveness.
- Prepare and maintain student attendance records.
- Provide positive consistent follow-up with students.
- Attend Prospect Point trainings based on specific program needs.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
- Reports to the Afterschool Program Director
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated competency in core-content subject areas (Math Reading Writing etc.) including integrated subjects like STEM.
- Strong interest in working with students in an educational setting and supporting student learning experiences.
- Effective communication skills both verbal and written; strong interpersonal skills.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Hours: 2:30-5:30 MTTHF; 1:30-5:30 W
- Requires completion of a Walla Walla Public Schools application fingerprinting and background check.
- Requires documentation of State Work Study eligibility from students college or university if applicable.
- Requires a signed copy of the WA Dept. of Labor & Industry Parent/School Authorization Form is applicant is hired as a minor.
