Job Description

Peer Specialist Competency/STS
  • Salary Range: $21.50 - $25.80per hour based on relevant years of experience
  • Location: Fort Collins Colorado
  • Status: Full time 40 hours per week
  • Hours: Monday Friday 8PM- 5PM

Role Overview:

As a Peer Specialist we will use your life experience from your personal journey of recovery of addiction and/or mental health challenges to engage advocate and link SummitStone Health Partners clients to formal or informal treatment activities services and/or supports. A Peer Specialist cultivates mutual supportive relationships with clients as they navigate through systems. This looks like highlighting strengths sitting in discomfort and walking side-by-side with clients as they move toward goals of their choosing.


Note: Competency Support Services is an innovative approach to working with individuals involved in the competency process. Specialized Treatment Services (STS) works with clients with serious and persistent mental illness who typically have co-occurring diagnoses and are often involved in the criminal justice system.

Essential Duties:

  • Utilizing your life experience from your personal journey of recovery of addiction and/or mental health challenges will perform direct client care for clients needing peer support services.
  • Providing direct client care through individual and group sessions face to face phone or telehealth contact.
  • Services will be community based and centered around clients recovery goals.
  • Ability to maintain accurate and timely documentation in medical health records and have knowledge of MS Windows and MS Office applications.
  • Knowledge of diversity and inclusion with the relevant ability to engage communicate interact and work effectively and cooperatively with people of different backgrounds identities and culturally diverse communities.

Required:

  • High school diploma completion of G.E.D.
  • Lived experience with mental health and/or substance use with 2 years of sustained recovery required.
  • Candidates must have completed at least 2 years post-parole probation or problem-solving court supervision to be considered eligible for this position.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid Colorado drivers license or ability to obtain within 30 days of hire and a clean driving record required.
  • CPR and First Aid certification required at certain locations.
  • Must complete training in SAHMSA Peer Core Competencies and COPA code of ethics prior to meeting with clients. (Training is included during the onboarding process).
  • Must obtain Colorado Peer Certification (CPFS) through COPA (Colorado Practitioners Association) within 1 year of employment. All trainings experience hours and payment for this certification are provided in-house.

  • Bilingual/bi-cultural preferred.
