Position Description

The City of Seattles Finance and Administrative Services Department (FAS) has an exciting opportunity for aSenior Finance Analystto be part of the Accounting and Budget Services team. The Senior Finance Analyst is responsible for critical budgetary and financial operations that support the department and will work directly with program managers executives and other business role requires someone to be analytical creative detail-oriented and eager to continuously learn.

ABOUT US

TheDepartment of Finance and Administrative Services (FAS) is often the publics first interaction with the City of Seattle operating as a customer-focused front door that assists with everything from paying utilities or reporting a pothole to requesting public information or even adopting a new pet.

The 500-plus employees of FAS span across 10 divisions and work behind-the-scenes providing critical functions like managing 120 City facilities including police and fire stations overseeing the Citys neighborhood customer service centers and Customer Service Bureau and making sure minority-owned businesses can equitably compete for City contracts. No matter the need FAS is here at your service.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist in the development of all phases of the annual FAS operating budget and citywide budget process. Work with your clients by assisting in drafting budget proposals and producing in-depth analysis to support resource requests.
  • Lead financial analysis on labor costs and maintain position management tracking tools; analyze research and advise on personnel costs and expenditure forecasts. Assist with the analysis and preparation of data used in internal overhead and cost allocation models.
  • Prepare regular financial reports for client and advise management on budget issues to support fiscal decisions. Develop strong research and analysis to identify potential financial challenges advising on budget overruns or revenue shortfalls while recommending options and solutions to management.
  • Participate as a strong budget team partner working on special projects assisting with budget legislation interdepartmental financial agreements and routine budget and general ledger journal entries.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in finance accounting public administration or related field; and

Three (3) years of professional experience performing budget or financial analysis in the support of a complex organization including at least one (1) year of professional experience in the analysis research and/or development of budgets for a complex organization.

(Or a combination of education training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class.)

The most successful candidates will possess the following:

  • Direct experience or knowledge of government budget processes.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills comfort communicating with executives and an orientation toward public service.
  • Advanced proficiency in using Excel; comfort using technology to understandhow data flows through multiple financial platforms.
  • Self-motivation and the ability to work independently including ambiguity and changing priorities.

Additional Information

This position is classified as a Senior Finance Analyst. It is Civil Service represented FLSA non-exempt and is eligible for full pay range for this step-progression position is $52.13 - $60.71 per hour.
