The Role

The ABC is looking for a Senior Advisor Wellbeing & Psychological Support to provide proactive support and responsive psychological support to journalists content creators and news staff across the organisation especially those in high pressure and/or high-risk environments.

The role will include but not be limited by:

  • Conducting scheduled and ad-hoc wellbeing checks for local and foreign correspondents crews and other high-exposure roles.
  • Intake and preliminary psychological assessments for news and content staff including trauma risk assessments following distressing assignments.
  • Participating in psychological first aid sessions following traumatic or high-impact events and foreign assignments.
  • Providing short-term evidence-based support and refer to appropriate internal or external mental health services when required.
  • Working closely with newsroom leaders editorial teams foreign bureau managers and the Inclusion & Wellbeing team to ensure timely and appropriate wellbeing support.
  • Delivering training and awareness sessions on mental health resilience and trauma-informed practices to staff and managers.

Position Description: SENIOR ADVISOR WELLBEING & PSYCHOLOGICAL

About You

You will have tertiary qualifications or demonstrated equivalent skills knowledge and experience in psychology counselling or related discipline with eligibility for registration or membership with a relevant professional body (AHPRA APS PACFA etc).

You will also have:

  • Demonstrated significant experience in mental health assessment case formulation and short-term intervention.
  • Extensive understanding of trauma-informed care vicarious trauma and occupational mental health in high-pressure or high-exposure work environments.
  • Proven high level ability to manage and coordinate multiple projects/initiatives and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • High level ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team including mental health wellbeing and WHS staff.
