Minimum Qualifications

1. Valid Louisiana leaching Certificate

  • Must hold a Type B or Level 2 (or higher) Louisiana Teaching Certificate.

  • This includes at least three years of successful teaching experience in a K-12 setting.

  • Prior leadership experience often preferred.

2. Educational Leadership Certification
  • Must possess one of the following:
    • Educational Leader Level 1 (EDL1) Certificate issued upon completion of a BESE-approved educational leadership program and passing the School Leaders Licensure Assessment (SLLA).
    • Educational Leader Level 2 (EDL2) Certificate granted after at least 3 years of successful administrative experience while holding an EDL1.
    • Note: Level 1 is the entry-level requirement for both assistant principals and principals.
3. Additional Requirements (varies by district or school system):
  • Demonstrated leadership ability or prior administrative experience may be required/preferred.
  • Prior leadership experience often preferred.

Job Specification

Reports to the Director of Education (also to the Facility Director on the ground where his/her school is located); administers the school in accordance with Louisiana Department of Education and OJJ policies.

Uses leadership supervisory and administrative skills to maintain an effective learning climate and to promote the educational development of each student.

Plans and implements a program which creates an environment where teachers have the ability to design and implement a course(s) of study that enables students to learn and develop optimally.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  1. Lead and manage daily school operations instructional programs and staff performance

  2. Oversee curriculum implementation aligned with state standards and individualized learning plans

  3. Promote a safe inclusive and respectful school climate using effective behavior management strategies

  4. Coordinate professional development and performance evaluations for educators and support staff

  5. Ensure compliance with state education regulations testing protocols and agency policies

  6. Collaborate with facility leadership external stakeholders and families to support student success

  7. Analyze educational data to inform school improvement planning and student interventions

Position-Specific Details:

Work Location: This vacancy is located at Jetson Center for Youth in Baker Louisiana.
Terms of Employment:12 Month Employee (as set by the Office of Juvenile Justice)
Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.
