Employment Type: Full Time Limited Term anticipated duration is 12 months

Salary Range: S2 Level 2 $52240-$65300 per year. The final compensation for this position will be determined based on individual factors including education qualifications experience and internal equity.

Materials & Warehouse Coordinator

The Opportunity

The Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) is seeking Materials & Warehouse Coordinator who will be responsible for the day-to-day safe operations of the Core Research Centre (CRC) warehouse in Calgary spanning 200 thousand square feet as well as the 48th street storage warehouse. This includes fulfilling core viewing requests operating powered mobile equipment physically moving core boxes cutting core and drill cutting samples. They also manage material movements in the Core Inventory Management System (CIMS) and ensuring proper organization and inventory of all physical materials at the CRC and the AER secondary storage doing so the Materials & Warehouse Coordinator ensures the timely accurate delivery of orders to external and internal customers. As an important member of the CRC the Materials & Warehouse Coordinator also champions and strictly adheres to the safety program within the facility.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Ensure Safe and Efficient Operations: Oversee the daily operations of the Core Research Centre (CRC) prioritizing safety and efficiency. Collaborate with patrons and CRC staff to fulfill core material requests using powered mobile equipment including Order Pickers Dock Stockers (Class 2) and Walkie Riders (Class 3). This role involves physically lifting core boxes weighing up to 80 lbs and transporting them between viewing facilities and storage areas.

  • Manage Geological Inventory: Maintain and organize the CRCs extensive geological inventory which includes over 1.7 million core boxes 22 million vials of drill cuttings and 50000 thin section slide envelopes. Develop and implement storage strategies to optimize warehouse capacity. Provide recommendations to CRC leadership to mitigate operational risks and improve data management.

  • Perform Core Sampling and Drilling: Use specialized rock saws and drilling equipment to cut core samples and drill plugs as required for analysis and research.

  • Support Safety and Team Collaboration: Actively participate in the AER safety program by conducting daily equipment maintenance checks and adhering to safety protocols. Provide support to other CRC teams during peak periods to ensure seamless operations.

  • Resolve Inventory and Order Issues: Collaborate with CRC staff to troubleshoot discrepancies in customer orders and core inventory. Conduct physical searches within the repository and investigate using the Core Inventory Management System (CIMS) and other AER systems.

  • Prepare for Special Events: Coordinate logistics for seminars conferences and other events by staging requested core materials in advance and ensuring timely delivery to viewing tables.

  • Coordinate Core Shipments: Manage shipments to and from the AERs secondary storage warehouse using CIMS. Schedule transportation with external vendors to ensure timely and accurate delivery.

What were looking for in you:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • 5 years of warehouse operations experience including operating powered mobile equipment warehouse order picking and customer service experience.

  • Excellent organization skills and the ability to effectively balance multiple demands independently; able to respond and adapt to changing priorities and timelines and enable the optimization of processes in a warehouse setting.

  • Familiarity with MS Office software (e.g. Microsoft Word Microsoft Excel). Familiarity with geological materials and the work of the AER is an asset.

  • Strong focus and attention to detail and accuracy.

Additional Information:

  • All applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada at the time of application.

  • Experience operating Class 2 Electric Motor Narrow Aisle Trucks (e.g. order picker reach type lift truck) and Class 3 Electric Pallet Jacks.

  • First Aid Certificate.

  • Pre-placement Medical required.

  • Drivers license is required.

  • Training certificate on class 2 & 3 power mobile equipment is recommended; training will be provided if needed.

  • Physically capable of lifting heavy objects (e.g. core boxes) without assistance (up to 80 lbs).

  • This role has a business requirement to work from Core Research Centre.
