Pay Range

Hiring Range: $17.99 - $21.14 Per Hour

Pay Range: $17.99 - $24.29 Per Hour

Range Explanation:

  • Hiring Range is an estimate of where you can receive an offer. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors including your skills qualifications experience education licenses training and internal equity.

  • Pay Range is the entire compensation range for the position.

Researches verifies and coordinates eligibility for Pima County indigent interment and viable alternatives; and participates in the cremation process of approved decedents.

Essential Functions:


As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act this classification may include any of the following tasks knowledge skills and other characteristics. This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by incumbents of this class. Work assignments may vary depending on the departments need and will be communicated to the applicant or incumbent by the supervisor.

  • Interviews applicants and determines eligibility for Pima County indigent interment;

  • Performs prudent research to ascertain next-of-kin and counsels applicants on interment alternatives (to minimize county cost/liability) and assists in the application process;

  • Researches requests and compiles requisite client documentation for application processes;

  • Coordinates interment of eligible decedents with family funeral homes county cemetery and other involved agencies or parties;

  • Monitors the indigent interment program budget;

  • Compiles paperwork and prepares warrant requests for funeral home payment;

  • Monitors the condition and maintenance of the county cemetery its headstones and markers in accordance with established standards;

  • Participates in development of new unit operating procedures and/or reviews and makes recommendations or changes to existing unit policies and procedures;

  • Participates in community planning and education of the indigent interment program and represents the work unit at internal and external meetings;

  • Maintains specialized databases to document input/retrieve data and prepare reports;

  • Participates and operates County crematory following Federal State and County laws/regulations;

  • Cremates decedents that have been approved through the indigent interment application process;

  • Collects monies to reimburse the County for cremation services

  • File for Cremation Permits and Death Certificates;

  • Transports remains (human non-human cremains) as necessary for the purposes of interment disinterment or cremation.


Minimum Qualifications:


One year of experience performing paraprofessional social services and/or administrative tasks related to the area of private or indigent interment services disability benefits probate estate planning or genealogy research.


OR:


An Associates degree or higher from an accredited college university or vocational-technical school with a major in criminal justice/law enforcement pathology forensics social work public health biology microbiology chemistry anthropology physicians assistant nursing pre-med mortuary science or a closely related field as defined by the department head at the time of recruitment.


OR:


One year of experience in a Medical Examiner Office Law Enforcement Agency Funeral Home Hospital Veterinary or Emergency Services.


OR:


Licensed Cremationist in the State of Arizona

Preferred Qualifications: (Be specific in describing your experience in your application. Ensure the descriptions provided illustrate your competencies specifically addressing the required and preferred qualifications.):

  • Licensed Cremationist.

  • Funeral Home Director license.

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Selection Procedure:

Pima County Human Resources Department reserves the right to admit to the selection process only those candidates that meet the minimum qualifications. All applications will be assessed based on an evaluation of the listed education and experience. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications may be further evaluated/scored against any advertised Preferred Qualifications. The hiring authority will interview and select the successful candidate from a referral list provided by Human Resources. Additional assessments/testing may be required as part of the selection process.

Supplemental Information:

Licenses and Certificates:Valid driver license is required at time of application.ValidAZdriver license is required at time of appointment. The successful applicant will be subject to a 39-month DOT Motor Vehicle Record review to determine applicants suitability to operate county vehicles in accordance with Pima County administrative procedures. Failure to obtain and maintain the required licenses and certifications shall be grounds for termination. Any offer of employment resulting from this recruitment is contingent upon Fleet Services review and approval of the candidates driving record.Must hold or obtain AZ State Cremation License within one year of hire date. Failure to maintain the required licensure shall be grounds for termination.

Special Notice Items: The County requires pre-employment background checks. Successful candidates will receive a post-offer pre-employment background screening to include verification of work history education and criminal conviction history. A prior criminal conviction will not automatically disqualify a candidate from employment with the County. Department of Labor Regulation CFR Part 19 10.1030 requires notification that this category may have a high risk of exposure to blood-borne accordance with OSHA and Pima County guidelines safety training equipment Hepatitis B and TB screening will be provided. All positions require satisfactory completion of a background investigation by law enforcement agencies or private agency for the 2-year period prior to appointment due to need for access to law enforcement detention courts and corrections facilities records communications systems and evidentiary materials. Pre-/Post-appointment drug testing may be required for all positions. All positions require the ability to work in the presence of noxious odors and offensive sights involving human and animal remains.

Physical/Sensory Requirements:Must be able to lift and manipulate bodies in excess of 100 pounds.
