Location: School District of Superior
Hours: 5-15/week; flexible schedule
Job Goal: Tutor elementary school students in small groups or 1:1 during school hours to improve reading math abilities. This may include reading to and with students playing educational games and assisting with math skills. Working with the classroom teacher; establish a communication process to report student progress.
This is a UW-Superior Off-Campus Work Study position. You must be eligible for Work Study in order to work in this position.
Qualifications:
* Must be enrolled in the University of Wisconsin and eligible for the Work Study Program.
* Demonstrate competent tutorial skills in curriculum subject areas K-5.
* Demonstrate mature judgment in making student behavior management strategies.
* Demonstrate ability to establish and maintain good rapport and maintain appropriate communications with students and staff.
* Demonstrate ability to motivate children and build student self-esteem through positive interpersonal relationships.
Performance Responsibilities:
* Follows teacher/administration directives to deliver tutoring services to individual students or small groups to reinforce learning materials and/or participate in activities.
* Assists staff in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or content-level skills based on a sympathetic understanding of individual students their needs interests and abilities.
* Instructs students on operation and care of equipment used for tutorial purposes.
* Assists the students in the library in the classroom or in other settings.
* Follows directions of instructional staff in monitoring student progress and assists in administering student assessments as needed.
* Follows teacher instructions in assisting in the preparation of instructional materials.
* Capable on a continuous basis: standing sitting reaching grasping bending stopping twisting; repetitive movement of both hands and feet; seeing with both near and far visual acuity.
* Capable on a frequent basis: walking and moving; climb stairs
* Capable on an occasional basis: pushing; pulling; lifting to 25# floor to waist waist to shoulders and shoulders to overhead

Contract and timesheets will be signed by staff at the work site and returned to the UWS FAO for processing. The tutor shall remain free of any alcohol or controlled substance in the workplace throughout his/her work study assignment in the district.
