Position Summary


The Standards Engagement Materials Matter Specialist will provide technical content support and stakeholder engagement capacity as part of the transition towards the Materials Matter System (MMS). This role focuses on enabling engagement with fiber and material stakeholders (Tier 4) by supporting the materials leads with system and standards knowledge coordination of consultations and structured feedback collection. The Specialist will serve as a bridge between the Standards and Assurance Department Materials Leads and Tier 4 stakeholders to ensure accurate accessible communication of policies system expectations and opportunities for continuous improvement. This role is essential to helping translate evolving system content into clear engagement strategies and supporting inclusive actionable stakeholder participation.


Key Responsibilities

1) Content Expertise & Policy Awareness

Serve as the engagement content expert for the Materials Matter Standard criteria and related policies that impact Tier 4 stakeholders.

Monitor updates to the standard policies and calibrations that affect Tier 4 stakeholders and ensure changes are communicated clearly in collaboration with the Standards & Assurance team and Materials Engagement Team.

Translate technical updates into clear stakeholder-friendly content and tools to support understanding and adoption by Tier 4 audiences.



2) Stakeholder Feedback & System Improvement

Lead the identification design and delivery of consultations related to Materials Matter topics that impact Tier 4 stakeholders working in close collaboration with Materials Engagement Team.

Gather and document feedback challenges and insights from Tier 4 stakeholders to inform continuous improvement of the Materials Matter Standard and system elements.

Track and synthesize stakeholder trends surfacing recurring themes to relevant internal teams to guide system development and policy updates. 3) Awareness Raising

Act as a liaison between the Standards & Assurance department and the Materials Engagement Team ensuring technical content is translated into accessible and actionable information for T4 audiences.

Support engagement opportunities such as webinars workshops and Round Table sessions to help Tier 4 stakeholders understand the Materials Matter system.

Create tailored accessible educational materials that clearly explain system changes and policy expectations to various T4 audiences.


4) Stakeholder Relationship Management

Support the Materials Engagement Team in managing relationships with raw material stakeholders by offering standards content knowledge and helping address questions related to system changes and MMS policy.

Respond to complex stakeholder inquiries related to Materials Matter system and policy topics.

Track and maintain records of stakeholder engagement feedback and follow-up through Textile Exchanges case management system.


Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors degree or equivalent experience in sustainability stakeholder engagement or related fields.

3 years of experience in a stakeholder-facing role with a focus on raw materials standards and certification and/or producer-focused supply chains management.

Demonstrated ability to represent an organization publicly and effectively build and maintain stakeholder relationships.

Strong organizational leadership and decision-making skills.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to synthesize complex information clearly.

Ability to work in a flexible yet fast-paced remote environment able to meet deadlines and share progress regularly. Comfort with ambiguity pivoting and working towards a big-picture mindset.

Strong work ethic and self-motivation with ability to work remotely effectively.

Dedicated team player.

Occasional travel if needed.


Preferred Qualifications

Ability to work in European or North American time zone.

Experience working in standards certification or sustainability frameworks.

Familiarity with tools such as Salesforce Microsoft Office Suite and Zoom.

Strong project management experience including delivering high-profile stakeholder initiatives.

Knowledge of Textile Exchanges standards vision and mission.

Ability to work remotely and manage competing priorities in a dynamic environment.

Salary Range: $65000 to $80000 USD
