Brief Description/Job Summary: Senior Application Engineer / Proposal Lead (Wastewater Treatment)

GCC Vadodara/Chennai campus seeks to hire a senior application/proposal engineer who can contribute to the growth of Xylems India Technology Center and its expansion into disruptive technology and business solutions. The position involves playing a key role in advancing Xylem water treatment technology capabilities. The application engineer will serve as the technical subject matter expert (SME) and lead for wastewater treatment plant proposals encompassing biological treatment systems clarifiers intake screens filtration aeration and sludge dewatering solutions. This role combines deep technical expertise commercial acumen and leadership responsibility guiding bid/no-bid decisions leading proposal strategies and mentoring the engineering team to deliver competitive compliant and winning proposals.

Essential Duties/Principal Responsibilities:

• Lead pre- and post-bid activities including proposal strategy process design costing and technical documentation for wastewater treatment plants and equipment offering
• Act as the decision-maker for bid/no-bid calls ensuring risks compliance and competitiveness are well evaluated.
• Provide technical leadership across all wastewater treatment technologies including biological processes clarifiers filters intake screening aeration and dewatering systems.
• Review tenders specifications and engineering drawings identifying risks deviations and optimization opportunities.
• Develop and validate Basic Engineering Packages (BEPs) including process design mass balances PFDs P&IDs hydraulic designs HFDs and unit sizing.
• Drive preparation of budgetary and firm proposals ensuring accurate costing compliance and alignment with approval processes (COA/DOA).
• Compile complete proposal packages including datasheets drawings technical narratives and compliance matrices.
• Engage in vendor collaboration: issuing RFQs evaluating technical offers negotiating and ensuring alignment with project requirements.
• Serve as the primary technical and commercial interface with clients leading presentations clarifications and negotiations.
• Work cross-functionally with mechanical controls instrumentation and execution teams to deliver integrated optimized solutions.
• Conduct risk assessments compliance reviews and competitive analysis to support strategic decision-making.
• Mentor and develop the proposal/application engineering team driving technical excellence and consistent proposal standards.
• Ensure timely and accurate completion of proposal planning scheduling and deliverables

Must Have:

• Expert-level knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and unit operations: biological systems clarifiers filters intake screens aeration and dewatering.
• Extensive experience in proposal preparation costing and client interaction for wastewater treatment projects.
• Proven ability to lead bidding decisions (bid/no-bid) and secure internal approvals (COA/DOA).
• Advanced capability in process hydraulic mass balance and equipment sizing calculations.
• Familiarity with international standards codes and compliance frameworks.

Good to Have:

• Knowledge of mechanical piping and instrumentation design integration.
• On-site exposure to erection commissioning and troubleshooting of wastewater treatment systems.
• Strong leadership mentoring and cross-functional collaboration capabilities.
• Awareness of emerging technologies digital engineering tools and industry advancements in wastewater treatment.

Qualifications:

• Full time in Mechanical/Environment/Chemical Engineering field from a recognized university.
• 10-15 years of progressive experience in wastewater treatment engineering proposals and technical-commercial leadership.
• Demonstrated track record as a proposal leader technical SME and client-facing expert in water and wastewater treatment projects.
