Job Description

Title: Student Advisor Pay Range: $17.00-$18.90 Date: Sept 10 2025
FLSA Status:
Non-Exempt Report to: Director of Office of External Degree Program Services

Brief Description

TheStudent Advisor provides general administrative support for the Zapara School of Business Office of External Degree
Program which serves MBA students in both the traditional and cohort programs. Specifically the Student Advisor
provides customer service and advising support communicates with students about registration graduation and other
key academic or co-curricular activities and provides support for the recruitment and retention activities for the ZSB
graduate advising office. Regularly communicates with students faculty and other campus staff/offices through various
platforms. Supports tracking and organization of student records and department files. May engage with department
social media and web platforms and/or assist with department marketing. May attend and recruit at events to represent
the ZSB and the External Degree program.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Interacts regularly with students to field student issues create a positive learning environment resolve conflicts
    and support student retention and wellness.
  • Assists students with advising and registration resolving holds and technology issues identifying documents for
    admission and completion tracking student records and creating student schedules.
  • May perform preliminary evaluation of transcripts.
  • Manages internal student tracking system and outbound communication to students on electronic platforms.
  • Creates quarterly enrollment spreadsheets for MBA programs and various reports for the dean.
  • Provides ZSB External Program (cohort) class support to faculty and students including basic assistance with
    Blackboard DUO authentication portal issues etc.
  • Has access to Banner as designated by supervisor.
  • Helps organize outreach programs and events; may periodically attend and recruit at fairs info sessions mixers and
    other networking events (virtually or in-person) to represent the ZSB External cohort programs as time permits.
  • May liaise with ZSB electronic communication specialist as time permits to update cohort website design and
    implement various web functions (in conjunction with campus webmaster) and monitor and post on cohort social
    media sites; may identify promising relationships on LinkedIn that may expand the departments reach; may engage
    with students faculty staff and others to create edit and post social media content on various platforms; may
    assist with creating and implementing marketing projects for the department as time permits.
  • Remote work may be required at supervisors discretion.
  • The Student Advisor may be asked to meet tight deadlines. Some tasks may occasionally require evening or
    weekend hours.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Knowledge Skills and Abilities


Qualifications
Ability to engage with people. Must be a team player problem-solver and self-starter; must have a positive attitude
and demonstrate professionalism and attention to detail. Must have strong written and oral communication skills. Must
be able to communicate comfortably with people from a variety of backgrounds and conduct him/herself appropriately
in a variety of settings. Must be trustworthy consistent reliable and efficient and have a high level of integrity. Must
be able to maintain confidentiality. Helpful to be well-versed in Blackboard and social media. Must be able to produce
spreadsheets for the department; helpful to be able to interpret financial statements. FERPA training will be required.

Education/Experience

Bachelors degree (B.A.) required or near completion from a four-year college or university (graduate degree beneficial);
and at least two years related experience (including former student employment).

Language Ability
Communication analytical and organizational skills generally acquired through the completion (or near completion) of a
bachelors degree program. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with faculty members staff members current
and prospective students alums and members of the business community.

Math Ability
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as
fractions percentages ratios and proportions to practical situations.


Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
Problems are highly varied complex and often non-recurring novel and require creative approaches to resolutions. New
concepts and approaches may have to be developed. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written
oral diagram or schedule form.


Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Blackboard Learn
Online program.
