The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine seeks qualified MD and/or PhD candidates to apply for a faculty position to provide medical director oversight of the Clinical Microbiology Laboratory at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta Georgia. The successful applicant will hold an academic appointment in the Emory University School of Medicine at the rank commensurate with experience and a medical staff appointment at Emory University Hospital. The medical director will also participate in efforts to standardize microbiology testing and processes through the Emory Healthcare network.
The Clinical Microbiology Laboratory serves complex inpatient and outpatient populations including surgery transplant and oncology and provides standard laboratory culture and antimicrobial susceptibility testing as well as mycology mycobacteriology and molecular virology services.
Applicants must have strong leadership and interpersonal skills and a willingness to work closely with the Division of Infectious Diseases and other clinical services. Additional responsibilities include participation in the medical director team of the Serious Communicable Diseases Unit and membership in several hospital committees (Infection Prevention Antibiotic Stewardship Diagnostic Stewardship) and liaison groups. The position requires teaching Pathology residents and there are also opportunities to teach medical technology students medical students medical microbiology fellows infectious disease fellows and Pharmacy residents.
In addition the individual is encouraged to participate in clinical translational and/or basic science research activities.
Candidates must be board-certified or board-eligible in medical microbiology (ABP-MM or ABMM). MD applicants must be eligible for a medical license in the State of Georgia.
