Group 1 seeks to hire a Senior Accountant Technical Accounting. The position reports to Group 1s Manager of Technical Accounting.

Responsibilities

  • Perform research and analysis of significant and/or complex accounting transactions including drafting of accounting position papers that present the Companys position on how such transactions should be accounted for under the applicable accounting standards.
  • Monitor understand and provide interpretation of new and proposed accounting pronouncements to assist key stakeholders in assessing financial operational and reporting implications.
  • Support quarterly accounting update meetings by preparing materials that communicate new accounting pronouncements describe regulatory updates and summarize key Company transactions for the broader accounting team.
  • Assist with the preparation of the annual goodwill and intangible asset impairment analyses including coordination with third-party valuation specialists.
  • Assist with the accounting for business combinations including coordinating with multiple groups within Corporate Accounting.
  • Perform quarterly and annual controls including but not limited to lease accounting derivatives business combinations and impairment processes.
  • Ownership of the lease accounting process including review of lease accounting transactions monthly general ledger loads and lease inputs within the lease accounting system.
  • Prepare quarterly derivatives entry for the Companys interest rate swaps.
  • Responsibility for the lease accounting system including assisting with coordinating system access updating the system for new lease transactions and utilizing the system to fulfill requests from other groups both internal and external.
  • Assist with the preparation of technical accounting presentation materials for presentation to Corporate Accounting the Assistant Corporate Controller the VP & Corporate Controller the CFO the Board of Directors and others as necessary.
  • Coordinate with external and internal auditors with regards to review and audit procedures.
  • Assist with tasks assigned by the Manager of Technical Accounting ensuring accuracy and timeliness in supporting financial reporting needs.
  • Serve as a resource for questions and requests regarding technical accounting workpapers including corporate accounting the tax department and financial reporting.



Qualifications

The candidate must be:

  • A team-first oriented employee.
  • Able to excel in a fast-paced environment including handling multiple simultaneous projects.
  • Have a firm understanding of accounting principles specifically lease accounting under ASC 842 revenue recognition under ASC 606 derivatives under ASC 815 and business combinations accounting under ASC 805.
  • Able to perform independent research of accounting literature including utilizing the results of such research to draft technical accounting memos
  • Holds a bachelors degree with a major in accounting from a reputable business college.
  • 2 years of relevant experience in accounting at a large multi-location corporation and/or public accounting firm.
  • An effective communicator including the use of both verbal and written forms of communication.

The ideal candidate should have:

  • A working knowledge of ASC 842 lease software is a plus.
  • An intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft software products particularly Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • A working knowledge of Oracle Smart View.
  • Experience utilizing AI tools such as ChatGPT in accounting workflows.
  • A CPA license
