Job Description

Bay Area Community Services (BACS) is a $150M non-profit providing innovative behavioral health and housing services for teens adults older adults and their families across the Bay Area. The Accountant - Accounts Receivable Specialist/Claims and Budget Specialist is responsible for accurate and timely management of customer billings analysis and problem solving collections and resolution of outstanding receivables balances and the application of payments.

The first 90 days period is 100% in office in Oakland then a hybrid schedule is available three days per week in office (Sacramento) after successfully completing BACS 90 day introductory period with satisfactory performance and achievement of all job related goals and requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Prepares reviews and distribute customer billings.
  • Posts customer payments by recording cash checks and credit card transactions.
  • Posts revenues by verifying and entering transactions.
  • Verifies accuracy of invoices by reconciling billings to the general ledger.
  • Research and resolve payment discrepancies.
  • Review A/R aging to ensure compliance.
  • Account reconciliation.
  • Maintain accounts receivable customer files and records.
  • Investigate and resolve customer inquiries.
  • Perform collections of past due receivables.
  • Resolves customer accounts by examining payment plans and payment history to determine if collection letters need to be sent out on delinquent accounts.
  • Researches and negotiates billing reduction claims.
  • Summarizes receivables by maintaining customers accounts receivable account verifying totals and preparing reports.
  • Maintains good relations with customers and funders.
  • Assists other accounting areas when required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications of Word Outlook and systemsbased documentation platforms.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Associate Degree in Accounting plus three (3) years of general accounting experience. Demonstrated experience with Microsoft Office software.
  • Advanced Excel skills.
  • Experience with large scale government contract accounting and/or enterprise level medical billing.
  • Ability to learn to work with different accounting software programs particularly the MIP Accounting System.

Additional Requirements: Position requires a valid California drivers license personal vehicle and proof of personal vehicle insurance coverage. DMV printout required.
