Chemistry Technician
(14 hours per week)
Full-time / Part-time Senior School Voorschoten (locally recruited from within The Netherlands*)
Senior School Voorschoten is looking to appoint a Chemistry Technician to support the teaching staff in the delivery of the school Chemistry Curriculum and the Science Curriculum which is delivered to students in the first two years of the school.
You will provide support in the preparation of class demonstrations and practical experiments by setting up and testing apparatus materials and equipment. The Chemistry Technician will also take responsibility for routine maintenance within the laboratory and for keeping laboratory supplies replenished. There are two other Chemistry Technicians in the team with whom you will share a workspace in addition to Biology and Physics technicians working in other departments.
Candidates should have a good standard of education experience of working in a laboratory environment and an understanding of Health and Safety within this setting. It is essential that you are able to communicate clearly in English. We are looking for candidates who can work to their own initiative prioritise workloads well and can think around problems.
Although not essential a Science qualification will be considered an advantage as will knowledge of the Dutch language.
Main responsibilities:
Prepare for lessons contribute to trials contribute to technical demonstrations and practical experiments;
Ensure the safe treatment and disposal of used materials including hazardous substances and respond to actual and potential hazards liaising with Concierges and School Health Officers when relevant;
Ensure that the appropriate levels of stock are ordered and maintained and take care of the healthy and safe storage and accessibility of equipment and materials;
Ensure that both routine and non-routine checking cleaning maintenance calibration testing and repairing of equipment are carried out to the required standard;
Contribute to the design development and maintenance of specialist resources and/or long-term projects including constructing and modifying apparatus;
Keep up to date with current procedures practices and health and safety requirements through continuing professional development.
