Overview:

The job of Front Office Assistantand Family Liaison is to provide support to the front office with specific responsibilities for providing information on programs/services available to students and families as well as school and/or district activities and procedures; referring families to other agencies; supporting students and families who are homeless and fostering an ongoing partnership between the home and school.

Job Requirements:

  • Prior job-related experience.
  • A person who is independent self-motivated and resourceful who enjoys working with diverse groups of people.
  • Bilingual Spanish speaking
  • Computer Literate
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule including some evenings and weekends

Skills Knowledge and/or Abilities Required:

  • Communicate in Spanish oral and in writing.
  • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions
  • Read/interpret/apply rules regulations and policies
  • Perform basic clerical functions
  • Perform basic math calculations
  • Provide translation and interpretive services in Spanish
  • Provide for health care needs of students.
  • Use English in both written and verbal form
  • Use correct spelling grammar and punctuation
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records
  • Operate standard office equipment including computer applications

License Certifications Bonding and/or Testing Required:

  • Criminal Justice Fingerprint Clearance (cost to the employee: $12.50 for fingerprints; $70.00 for criminal background check one-time payroll deduction)
  • First Aid CPR and AED certification or the ability to obtain
  • Ability to take medication training offered through MESD and paid for by the district

Physical Requirements

In a 3-4 hour day the Front Office Assistant/Family Liaisonmay:

  • Stand/walk 3 4 hours
  • Sit - 2 4 hours
  • Bend kneel squat climb stairs or ladders
  • Ability to lift carry push and pull up to 50 pounds. May after appropriate training and following approved methods also require the ability to physically intervene with assistance 50 to 100 lbs.
  • Requires continuous reaching bending crouching twisting kneeling and the repetitive use of arms hands wrists and legs.

The Front Office Assistant/Family Liaisonwill need:

  • Near/far visual acuity depth perception. unaffected field of vision unaffected hearing ability to talk/converse and the ability to evacuate students from classrooms/building

Preferred:

  • Experience working with diverse student populations preferred

    Essential Job Responsibilities:

    • Assists students staff teachers parents and community members (e.g. applications for services interpreting technical information etc.) for the purpose of providing and/or conveying information and other services required by parents or teachers.
    • Communicates with parents on behalf of school (e.g. attendance and homework issues available programs/services completing paperwork etc.) for the purpose of ensuring that an ongoing partnership between the home and school is healthy and complete.
    • Develops relationships with students and families.
    • Maintains a variety of confidential and non-confidential manual and electronic lists and records (e.g. activity logs phone logs community resources caseload notes around attendance interventions etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities providing up-to-date reference and audit trail and/or ensuring the availability of items.
    • Refers students and their families to outside agencies (e.g. state agencies medical professionals counselors foundations charities etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the needs of students and families are met.
    • Responds to inquiries from a variety of internal and external sources (e.g. parents students teachers staff outside agencies etc.) for the purpose of providing information and/or direction as may be required.
    • Identifies school and family needs.
    • Administers medication to students.
    • Administers first aid and medical assistance for the purpose of providing appropriate/emergency care for children.
    • Assists parents for the purpose of enrolling students and reporting attendance.
    • Maintains office equipment.
    • Performs basic clerical functions scheduling copying mailingsetc. for the purpose of supporting the staff.
    • Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (i.e. discipline accidents etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to teachers and administration.

    Other Job Functions:

    • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
    • Participates in various meetings for the purpose of sharing information and/or improving skills/knowledge.

    Work Expectations:
