Krero m te tranga - About the role

Te Herenga Waka - Victoria University of Wellingtonis currently recruiting a Kairuruku - Research Assistant in Ovarian Biology on a 14-month fixed term full-time contract until the end of December 2026.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage Pitman mouse strains in the small animal facility (e.g. manage breeding programmes record-keeping ear notching etc.).
  • Train and support post-graduate students in their laboratory work.
  • Perform laboratory benchwork as required for contracted research.
  • Provide general laboratory administration tasks (e.g. consumable ordering managing cleaning roster up-date inventories etc.).

pmanawa - About you

You have a genuine interest and knowledge of ovarian biology and have experience working in a Small Animal Facility as well assisting post graduate students in research focused tasks. You are reliable proactive and able to juggle multiple tasks while meeting deadlines.

Key requirements:

  • Minimum of MSc in a biology related field.
  • Previous experience with working in an active research laboratory and small animal facility.
  • Experience with assisting post-graduate students in research-based tasks.
  • Capable of handling and working with rodents.
  • Familiarity with an online ordering system.
  • Demonstrates effective time-management.
