JOB SUMMARY
A youth apprenticeship for high school students. Arlington Echo offers students the opportunity to gain experience in the field of environmental education. Students will receive 450 hours of paid on-the-job-training by assisting the Camp Directors in supervising campers and leading activities during a four to seven day summer camp experience at our Outdoor Education Center during several weeks throughout the summer. The requirement for the remaining hours will be met by supporting fourth grade environmental literacy programs in the fall either during the school day or during the evening for overnight programs. Each of the summer camps has a different age range and program emphasis. Students will assist the Camp Directors and Counselors in providing campers a fun and safe week of camp during the summer and support fourth grade staff in the delivery of environmental literacy programming in the fall. This is an opportunity for young adults to learn management and leadership skills through the lens of environmental literacy. Tasks may include setup and break down of activities assisting with supervision of campers/students and ensuring camper/student safety.

Based on the assignment the following additional work days and/or hours may be required as needed:
- Evenings/Nights
- Summer hours
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists and works directly with the Camp Directors and Counselors in planning and leading activities for the campers.
- Supervises campers throughout the day and night if applicable.
- Organizes the set up and break down of necessary equipment and materials needed for instructional programs and activities.
- Assists in developing instructional materials and activities for use in the outdoor education program.
- Directs and oversees dining hall meal procedures to assure proper meal atmosphere and behavior.
- Performs other related duties as assigned within the same classification or lower.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education
- Other: Must be a students at an AACPS high school required.
Experience
- Experience in working with children in a group setting preferred.
Knowledge Skills Abilities and Other Characteristics
- Ability to work as a team member with other counselors and adult staff members.
- Responsible friendly enthusiastic patient and willing to learn.
- Participation in counselor training
- Demonstrated ability to effectively work and communicate with diverse populations.
- Demonstrated proficiency with business technology applications (e.g. Video/Web Conferencing Microsoft Office Suite -Word Excel Outlook and/or PowerPoint preferred).
Licenses and Certifications
Employee must retain active licenses certifications and enrollment as a condition of employment.
