Job Description

Reports to: Park Maintenance Crew Leader

Classification: Non-Exempt / Full-Time

Salary: $30.83 - $32.22

Grade: 4

Hours: Monday Friday / First Shift

General Description:

Under general supervision performs routine maintenance and repair of park facilities and ground; operates power mowers trimmers small utility tractor and trucks; performs other duties as assigned.

Essential Functions:

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Maintains the park facilities and grounds by mowing and trimming turf cutting/trimming trees and shrubbery spraying weed killer picking up refuse and brush cleaning and repairing restrooms and shelters.
2. Operates lawn tractors trucks and other park maintenance equipment in conjunction with snow plowing or ice pond maintenance.
3. Operates hand tools including shovel rake broom hammer wrench etc.
4. Performs confined space duties.
5. Performs work zone safety procedures.
6. Utilizes and wears proper protective gear and equipment.
7. Occasionally operates city owned vehicles including trucks and equipment to load haul and spread materials.
8. Maintains and services city-owned vehicles and equipment utilized in park facilities area.
9. Maintains flower beds by planting watering and cultivating soil and plants.
10. Performs manual tasks by shoveling asphalt sand concrete gravel and snow by hand.
11. Provides direction and instructions to seasonal maintenance employees.
12. Performs repairs to buildings structures and playground equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Training:

Equivalent of a High School Diploma

License or Certifications:

Possession of a valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL)

• Or ability to obtain within 6 months

Experience:

Prior experience in general manual work or grounds maintenance is preferred

Knowledge Skills & Abilities:

The following generally describes the knowledge and ability required to enter the job and/or be learned within a short period of time in order to successfully perform the assigned duties.

Knowledge of:

• Knowledge of the function of basic hand and power tools machinery utilized for grounds and building maintenance.
• Knowledge of the chemical contents of sprays utilized on the grounds.
• Knowledge of OSHA regulations and safe work practices.

Skill & Ability to:

• Skill in operating and maintaining smaller parks maintenance power equipment.
• Ability to utilize various basic hand and power tools machinery and cleaning supplies in the maintenance area.
• Ability to ensure safe work environment.
• Ability to perform unskilled tasks in construction or maintenance activities.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
• Ability to work in inclement weather conditions.
• Ability to effectively communicate with those contacted throughout the course of the workday.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other departments agencies employees supervisors and the public.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

There is frequent need to sit drive; there is moderate need to stand walk climb twist bend stoop talk or hear use hands to finger lift up to and over fifty (50); and perform other similar actions during the course of the workday. Position is subject to overtime emergency call out and working in inclement weather.
