The Administration for Childrens Services (ACS) protects and promotes the safety and well-being of children and families through child welfare and juvenile justice services and community supports. ACS manages community-based supports and foster care services and provides subsidized childcare vouchers. ACS child protection staff respond to allegations of child juvenile justice ACS oversees detention placement and programs for youth in the community.
The Division of Administration provides a wide range of support services throughout ACS to ensure all Divisions receive adequate and efficient support services to carry out their respective missions. The Division of Administration (Admin) employs approximately 463 public employees. Admin manages a Personnel Services (PS) Budget of approximately $29M and an Other Than Personnel Services (OTPS) Budget (OTPS) of $140M. It provides services including building maintenance real estate design construction management facilities and custodial services occupational safety and health operational support security transportation and print production.
Detention Construction and Building handle all detention related facility matters including but not limited to construction design maintenance repairs etc. and ensuring the space meets programmatic needs; partner with the Department of Design and Construction to ensure new projects are completed within applicable deadlines and within fiscal parameters. They ensure the routine repair and maintenance of ACS secure detention facilities as well as the design and development of construction projects. This includes the monitoring of skilled tradespeople and/or contractors architects engineers and all individuals who provide design services ensuring safety measures and regulations are followed and work is done completely and as expeditiously as possible. They Engage in critical analysis of current and pending projects and daily work plans keeping the team on track and on task at every level; Create and maintain impeccable records and reports as required.
The duties for the maintenance worker position will be as follows but not limited to:
- Make on-site and immediate repairs to general infrastructure and public spaces to address unsafe conditions caused by system failures vandalism or unforeseen structural issues.
- Maintain secure inventory and accountability of tools and materials to prevent access by residents and unauthorized personnel.
- Maintain adjust and perform minor repairs on building hardware furniture shelving and equipment.
- Conduct daily inspections of facilities and equipment to facilitate preventive and predictive maintenance and orderly replacements.
- Visually inspect public buildings structures and equipment to identify defects malfunctions and hazardous conditions.
- Record observable conditions and inspection findings.
- Replace broken window and door glass and repair window sashes.
- Make minor repairs to masonry woodwork flooring and walls.
- Perform minor maintenance on electrical plumbing and heating systems.
- Monitor contractors work verify completion and ensure compliance with specifications.
- Keep service records and file reports on work activities incidents and unusual conditions.
- Operate a motor vehicle to travel to and from work sites.
- Assist in setting up special events and relocating building equipment as directed.

Qualifications :
1. Three years of full-time satisfactory experience as a mechanic journeyperson or helper in the electrical trades the mechanical trades or the construction or maintenance of buildings; or
2. At least two years of full-time satisfactory experience as described in 1 above plus sufficient full-time training or education in the electrical mechanical or construction trades in a trade school technical school or vocational high school to make up the equivalent of three years of acceptable experience. Six months of experience will be credited for each year of full-time acceptable training or education.
