    Job Description

    Title: Maintenance & Grounds Supervisor
    Qualifications:
    • High school diploma or equivalent required; post-secondary coursework or certification in facilities maintenance horticulture turf management construction management or related field preferred.
    • Minimum of five (5) years progressively responsible experience in building maintenance construction and/or grounds operations with at least one (1) year in a supervisory or leadership role.
    • Broad working knowledge of multiple building systems including HVAC plumbing electrical carpentry and building envelope maintenance.
    • Knowledge of groundskeeping practices including turf care landscaping athletic field preparation irrigation systems tree/shrub care and snow/ice removal.
    • Experience coordinating and overseeing construction and repair projects working with contractors and ensuring compliance with regulatory inspections.
    • Familiarity with work order management systems inventory control and budget monitoring.
    • Ability to plan assign and evaluate the work of others and to promote a positive team-oriented department culture.
    • Strong organizational communication and problem-solving skills; able to work effectively with administrators staff contractors and the public.
    • Must possess or be able to obtain a valid Iowa Class C drivers license (CDL with air brake endorsement preferred).
    • Ability to respond to emergencies outside of regular work hours.

    Job Goal:
    To provide leadership coordination and oversight of the districts maintenance and grounds operations ensuring that all facilities systems and outdoor spaces are safe functional and well-maintained to support high-quality learning environments and district operational needs.
    Performance Responsibilities:
    Leadership & Supervision
    • Assign schedule and oversee daily work for maintenance and grounds staff.
    • Conduct regular inspections of district facilities systems and grounds to identify maintenance and safety needs.
    • Ensure work is completed in accordance with district standards timelines and applicable codes.
    • Provide training and guidance to staff on proper work methods equipment use and safety procedures.
    • Evaluate staff performance in accordance with district policy and support ongoing staff development.
    • Foster a collaborative service-oriented work environment that supports school operations and student success.
    Maintenance Operations
    • Coordinate and perform repairs preventative maintenance and general upkeep of district buildings mechanical systems and equipment.
    • Oversee the monitoring maintenance and repair of district HVAC systems pools and related equipment.
    • Troubleshoot maintenance issues and determine appropriate solutions.
    • Ensure proper documentation of maintenance work including logs and work order completion.
    Grounds Operations Oversight
    • Provides guidance to senior Grounds Department staff regarding all grounds maintenance activities ensuring alignment with seasonal needs and district priorities.
    • Direct staff in turf care mowing trimming landscaping tree and shrub care irrigation and athletic field preparation.
    • Ensure proper operation maintenance and safety of grounds equipment including mowers trimmers blowers skid-steers tractors and snow removal equipment.
    • Provides guidance to senior Grounds Department staff regarding all snow and ice removal operations including plowing shoveling and application of salt or ice melt.
    • Monitor work related to special event setup and takedown including moving and arranging equipment and furniture.
    • Ensure compliance with safety procedures chemical handling requirements and use of personal protective equipment.
    Project & Compliance Oversight
    • Assist the Director of Buildings and Grounds in managing large-scale construction renovation and repair projects.
    • Coordinate with contractors review project timelines and ensure work quality meets district standards.
    • Oversee and maintain compliance with state and federal inspections including fire safety boiler/pressure vessel backflow prevention asbestos management (AHERA) pool operations and other required inspections.
    • Support district safety and environmental programs including equipment operator certifications.
    Administrative Duties
    • Maintain accurate records of work performed inspections inventory and equipment maintenance.
    • Manage and monitor work orders using the districts maintenance management system.
    • Assist in preparing and monitoring departmental budgets.
    • Obtain cost estimates and quotes for materials services and contracted work.
    • Schedule and notify staff of continuing education training conferences and certification renewals.
    Other
    • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
    • Utilize effective time management and demonstrate a positive professional attitude.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Buildings and Grounds.
    Physical Demands:
    • Ability to perform tasks requiring frequent standing walking bending lifting and carrying.
    • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally and perform strenuous physical labor in various weather conditions.
    • Ability to operate hand and power tools vehicles and grounds/maintenance equipment.
    Terms of Employment:
    • Twelve-month employment.
    • Salary determined by negotiated agreement.
    Evaluation:
    Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on Evaluation of Classified Personnel.
