OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST

The initiative UNESCO Information Kit on Intangible Cultural Heritage Safeguarding and Climate Action jointly implemented by UNESCO Regional Office for East Asia and International Information and Networking Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage in the Asia-Pacific Region aims to bridge a critical knowledge gap to empower global communities to lead climate action for living heritage. Against the backdrop of intensifying climate change cultural heritage as a repository of human wisdom in adapting to the environment is confronting climate risks and transformational pressures. The ecological wisdom embedded in traditional knowledge systems cultural practices and heritage sites offers unique solutions for climate action. However policymakers educational institutions and communities lack systematic knowledge and resources to effectively integrate cultural dimensions into climate responses. This initiative aims to develop an interdisciplinary knowledge information kit that integrates innovative approaches to intangible cultural heritage safeguarding and climate adaptation. By providing policy guidelines educational modules and community practice cases it empowers diverse stakeholders to collaboratively promote culturally sensitive climate action and contribute to the achievement of sustainable development goals.

Under the overall authority of the Director of the UNESCO Regional Office for East Asia and the direct supervision of Culture Programme Specialist the individual consultant will develop a multi-stakeholder information kit on intangible cultural heritage and climate action designed to equip policymakers educators and local community leaders with accessible evidence-based knowledge and resources to integrate cultural dimensions into climate strategies. The information will bridge knowledge gaps by providing practical guidance thematic insights and tailored materials for diverse audiences including government agencies schools community-based organizations and communities to foster culturally sensitive climate policies sustainable heritage management and inclusive adaptation practices.
