The Shop Service Technician will perform the necessary tasks throughout the department to complete the work needed to repairand turnaround the customers carding rolls as accurately and quickly as possible

Key Responsibilities

  • Performs turning milling drilling tapping grinding and assembly work as required to repair rolls and plates
  • Provides input as to methods of repair and cost estimates
  • Demonstrates technical and creative skills that can be applied to making improvements in the repair processes
  • Work in a safe manner maintains good attendance and follows all company policies and procedures
  • Positive attitude and team oriented
  • Flexibility to work abnormal hours to meet customer demands
  • Learn and work in other areas of the repair shop as needed
  • Learn and perform the Major Shop Service Tasks
    • Winding
    • Grooving
    • Turning/Machinig
    • Balancing
    • Welding
    • Cardmaster plates
  • Learn and perform all the Generic Shop Tasks:
    • Pull Bearings
    • Strip rolls
    • Evaluate rolls
    • Palletize/Box rolls for shipment
    • Load/Unload trucks
    • Empty trash and metal bins

Skill Requirements

  • Must have precise attention to detail
  • Skilled in performing turning milling drilling tapping grinding and assembly work
  • Ability to read measuring instruments such as micrometers dial indicators calipers scales and gauge blocks to verify dimensions
  • Ability to maintain an inventory of products used
  • Skilled in areas of manual machining welding and brazing
  • Experience with machine shop equipment including welders lathes mills grinders drills presses belt sanders handtools etc.

Required Education and Experienc

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 5 years of Machining experience
  • Knowledge and skill in the use of tooling equipment such as lathes grinders drills milling machines and saws
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job this employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle feel and reach. Some essential tasks may require fine finger manipulation. The employee is frequently required to stand walk stoop kneel or crouch. This employee must regularly lift and move objects up to 10 lbs frequently lift and move objects up to 50 lbs and occasionally lift and move objects with assistance up to 100 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision distance vision peripheral vision depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Shift

  • 40 hrs per week / Monday Friday /6:00 am 2:30 pm
  • Some OT as needed
