Position Summary
The VP Capital Markets is responsible for managing the Associations participations portfolio expanding the Associations market share within the capital markets segment and overseeing staffing and strategies within the portfolio. This position is responsible for executing marketing strategies and developing syndication/participation relationships with other Farm Credit entities identifying targeted industries companies and key players to capture critical new business and managing sold participations.

Essential Functions

  • Capital Markets Portfolio Management 70%
    • Manages the sales and marketing of Association originated credits through syndications participations and other structures
    • Advise on appropriate loan structure and pricing for loan purchases and sale
    • Manage the sell down of purchased syndications and participations
    • Coordinate sales activities with lending partners
    • Recommends and coordinates the purchase and sale of participation loans
    • Coordinate sales activities with lending partners
    • Reviews and monitors capital market portfolio for compliance with Association and FCA policies procedures and regulations
    • Prepare and present credit memos to approval committees
    • Educates trains and responds to internal staff questions on syndication and loan participations
    • Reviews approves modifies or denies credit actions within delegated credit authority and as participant in staff and executive committees for the Association
    • Guides and directs credit staff based on Association policies and procedures related to capital markets and advises on participation and syndication transactions
  • Business Development (or Community Involvement) 20%
    • Create and foster alliances with the agricultural business community both within and outside of the Farm Credit system
    • Maintain a professional presence while representing and promoting the Association at outside meetings and events
    • Manages ongoing relationships and provides high quality service to Capital Markets Officers in other Farm Credit entities and leading financial institutions across the country and customers in the capital markets portfolio.
    • Develop maintain and leverage industry expertise contacts implementation and exposure to enhance image and marketplace effectiveness of the association.
  • Association Strategic Management 10%
    • Participates in the development and implementation of Association direction long/short term strategies and workforce and financial decisions related to capital markets
    • Communicates updates and the Association strategic direction to team members
    • Offers highly independent expertise and recommendations to the leadership team and staff on capital markets strategies and action plans
    • Reviews Association policies and recommends improvements within area of expertise
  • Data Security and Confidentiality
    • Appropriately protects the confidentiality security and integrity of the Associations systems and data and clients data.
  • Commitment and Support of Association Mission
    • Understands applies and supports the Association mission and vision statement in a positive professional manner at work and with customers in all settings.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of Capital Market issues involving FCA/bank lending regulations financial report requirements rating agency methodologies and multi-lender credit facility documentation
  • Ability to think creatively in developing innovative solutions to position the Association at a competitive advantage relative to the competition in the capital markets segment.
  • Skill in using NGS (AgVantis CRM system) to manage customer relationships throughout the loan life cycle
  • Adept in developing strategic alliances with other financial institutions for participation purposes.
  • Proficient in analyzing information and problem solving to formulate logical and objective conclusions.
  • Extensive knowledge of credit analysis and regulatory requirements with respect to borrowers rights.
  • Advanced knowledge of financial statements and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Knowledge of title issues easements tax law title and escrow state and federal ag regulations appraisal concepts processes and procedures lending practices farm business management and other industry terminology
  • Expert skill in communicating complicated information delivering bad news and negotiating complex agreements effectively to achieve the best outcome for the Association.
  • Advanced knowledge of business and management principles in strategic planning resource allocation leadership techniques production methods auditing principles and methods and coordination of people and resources.
  • Extensive knowledge of accounting principles practices and methods.
  • Skill in identifying and organizing resources in a systematic way to prioritize fluctuating workloads optimize efficiency and ensure achievement of Association goals.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining relationships with a variety of internal and external organizations and the community to advance the organizations interests and grow/maintain business.
  • Knowledge of the agriculture financial and real estate industry and applied business mathematics and principles.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite computers current software and other office tools.
  • Ability to effectively read write and communicate in the English language.
  • Skill in serving and working effectively with both external and internal customers in a professional respectful manner.

Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelors Degree in Ag Business Business Finance Accounting or a related field. Masters Degree in Accounting Agriculture or Business is preferred.
  • Experience: 7 years of credit administration in capital markets agricultural or related lending experience.
  • Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.

Physical Demands

Positions in this class typically require: typing talking hearing seeing and repetitive motions. May need to move materials weighing up to 10 pounds. May need to carry push pull or otherwise move objects while completing essential functions. This position is comprised of sedentary work which involves sitting at a computer a majority of the workday; may need to move throughout the building occasionally. The employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figuresviewing a computer screen and/or reading extensively.

Working Conditions

Employees work in an office environment with moderate noise levels controlled temperature conditions and no direct exposure to hazardous physical substances. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures. This position requires approximately 30% travel time with occasional overnight travel.
