Position Summary
Do you like to look at data sets to find trends and tendencies Do you enjoy dealing with complex multi-variable problems using cutting-edge analytics Xcel Energy is looking for smart innovative STEM-based interns with analytical modeling skills to join our team.
We are looking for analytical thinkers that can discover insight from load research data using statistical algorithmic mining and visualization techniques. Assist in the development of meaningful reports for internal and external customers.
This position is for a June 1st 2026 start. The position may have the possibility to extend beyond the internships initial term based on the candidates successful performance and Xcels business needs.
Minimum Requirements
Current Student Sophomore status (as of Fall 2026) or higher.
Enrolled in a bachelors or masters program for economics mathematics statistics business computer science energy and environmental sciences or similar program
Possess basic computer skills preferably with Microsoft Office applications (e.g. Excel and Word)
Good organizational communication and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications
3.0 GPA (out of a 4.0 scale) or higher
Completed 2 years of undergraduate coursework
Fluency with SQL Python R or similar coding languages and cloud computing platforms
Data Exploration skills: ability to look through data assess data quality and draw conclusions from data
Exposure to and understanding of foundational statistical concepts
